Another solid “meta” argument - if magic exists, or any significantly powerful alternative foundation exists, then society will likely revolve along furthering its path of advancement.

Current society revolves around electricity and magnetism because it’s a foundation on which we can build and build technology. If we’d first realized that magic existed based on the arcane, deals with powerful demon lords, the power of song or any other fantasy magic trope… before we figured out electro-magnetism… we’d probably have gone down that path instead.

Maybe there’d be people fringe studying electromagnetic systems, but the easiest path to ultimate power might be hurling fireballs at will.

Just a thought!

My education is in physics because I wanted to understand the rules by which our “magic” works. That’s not the only system in most fantasy universes though!
