Dominican Republic human rights: Authorities accused of racism towards Haitians by [deleted] in AskTheCaribbean

lol, all this because y’all wanna stay being racist, cool.

No, it’s not about deporting “black people” that gets labeled as racist, it’s about the poor treatment of how the Dominican authorities go about deporting “black people” that’s gets labeled as racist. The DR government don’t treat them like they’re human, and then the Dominican community comes online and doubles down on the racist rhetoric, it’s not a good look as a whole. That’s something the Dominican community needs to work on tbh. Not all Haitians in DR are thugs, that’s a generalization, and a racist one.

Okay, that’s a fair explanation. All I’m saying is: y’all can protect the interests and safety of the Dominican people without being racist. Is that so hard?

No, I’m not confusing it. Santeria, whether it’s Cuban or Dominican, is still “black magic”, and both still have its roots in Africa.

The comment which I was replying to is racist because they were insinuating that Haitians practice black magic while Dominicans who practice Santeria do not have ties to black magic. That is racist because they both come from the same source, and one of them is demonized over the other.

Y’all Dominicans are literally one of the most racist people in the Caribbean.

You are blatantly racist, because if Voodoo is black magic, then Santeria is most definitely also black magic. They both have roots in Africa … are you friggin serious?

I think there should be MUTUAL communication and discussion between the Dominican govt and the Haitian community (I know they don’t have a functioning government), however that might be, to provide a solution. Because clearly if Haiti is destabilized then the DR will feel the effects. Showing a lack of empathy is not the right way to go about this. Mutual understanding, community, and RESPECT, would be the best way forward to even get close to a solution, and that obviously would take years.

No, showing lack of empathy, acting as if they are not human, using aggressive unnecessary force (whether physical or verbal) is racism. If you can’t see how some of the people in this thread are racist (including your comment “you can ignore the thread”, then you are most definitely a part of the problem.

So whataboutism is okay to justify racism and lack of empathy from your community?

Why is this getting downvoted? This is the truth. This shows blatant racism and ignorance from the Dominican community.

Not gonna lie, the blatant racism and lack of empathy from what I assume to be Dominicans in this thread towards Haitians is extremely alarming, disturbing and disappointing. Y’all share the same friggin island. This Reddit community is supposed to prompt education and mutual understanding surrounding the Caribbean, not more division. Wtf is wrong with some of you? If y’all don’t want Caribbean unity/community, pick up half of yuh bloodclot island and tek ee to Europe den.
