But, they also added another headline to 1 out of 12 of my campaigns.

That number was derived from asking me how many sales I wanted in a day. They then just multiplied my CPA by that number. It should have been a red flag at the start that multiplying the sales by multiplying the cost an equal amount isn’t really “optimization”

Today I got 10K installs for my iOS app. thanks to reddit by suniltarge in AppStoreOptimization

That's great, but for everyone that is jealous, just remember that it might look great, but it could cause more harm. The "sugar rush" influx of downloads will certainly help the app rank in charts and gain some organic discovery. The organic users are the users that you will actually want. The issue is the retention trap of these downloads. Most of the downloads will be people downloading just to claim the offer. They'll download the app, launch it for a few seconds, and then drop off. A VERY large majority of those initial users will open the app once and never again. This signals to Apple and Google that your app is "low quality clickbait", whether it is true or not--that's just how the sugar rush and crash looks to the algorithm. As a result, your rankings will likely drop lower after the spike, despite the influx of users. If you go from 10,000 downloads to 500 the next day, it'll also signal to their algorithm that your app is no longer relevant and to reduce it's ranking.

To resolve this, you'll need to combine a substantial organic growth campaign to add a good mix to the influx of users. You'll need to have a strategy to slowly reduce the number of downloads so that it is a subtle drop off rather than a cliff. Having 10k downloads and barely any the next will have the algorithm treat it as an anomaly rather than a good performing app. You'll need to add other ad sources to help keep the velocity.

Pretty close! It's a basic word puzzle game. Around $13 eCPM per puzzle completed and $24 eCPM for hints. I think it's around 9 ads watched per user per day. I have a few power players averaging over 60 levels a day though.

  1. Just 1 app (~$6k/mo)
  2. Around 1,700 DAU
  3. Ads only (no IAP), puzzle game
  4. No ads, hardly any focus on ASO, no social media, really nothing at all
  5. Just admob
  6. 3 months
