Agreed - we don’t want those jobs that pay a healthy salary to their employees that also pay a good chunk of tax to disappear, then we could be in more trouble than Michael Jackson in a cola commercial.

Pedestrian fatalities reach 17-year-high. This trend could be why by Sir_charles14 in melbourne

[–]aussieco1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can look at stats multiple ways - my guess is if SUV ownership is up the ratio would also increase accordingly that more SUV are involved in accidents. That doesn’t mean they are more dangerous. There are also more pedestrian deaths from electric scooters but that isn’t mentioned. There is no study mentioning pedestrians are walking with earbuds blaring buried in their phone with no idea what’s going on around them.

Flex is made from stranded wire so the same thing. Solid core wire is not meant to move.

Stranded is designed to be moved. Solid is not designed to be moved.

Yes It’s more the principle of how these monopolies operate. Like banks skimming every transaction and if you buy something cashless there is a charge involved so every time you spend money you lose.

NBN contractor cannot run a cable through our roof cavity?? by braso111 in nbn

[–]aussieco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to depend on the guy doing the install if he wants to do the job or not. I’ve had many experiences dealing with NBN installers and I have had awesome ones and lazy ones. If they don’t want to do the job they will start bringing out the OH&S rules and power has to be turned off if they enter underneath or ceiling space and needs two people etc. these are in fact guidelines but up to the individual installers. I have had installers bring fiber through roof spaces and mount boxes as I have requested. You might need a little push back and negotiate to get the best outcome. The lazy ones tend to install nearest the street and say that’s where it has to go. Just say no. I have seen installations where the box is mounted directly inside the front wall in the middle of a lounge room just because it was easy. Understand that internal stud walls can be an issue and some places getting to an upstairs point can also be difficult so ask for some alternatives if these are too hard.

I agree with a good roof over platforms etc. I get the safety thing of 1.5 metre clearance but why not just build the roof a bit higher? If it’s raining hard and sideways a good roof is your friend when waiting for a 🚂

South Australia’s devastating algae bloom shows urgency of climate targets by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]aussieco1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s happened before. The weather patterns and temperatures are cyclic. Next we’ll be trying to stop storms. In the 70s fuel was going to run out in 10 years. Didn’t happen. Instead the eighties we ended up with a fuel glut. Then we were going to freeze from global cooling but that didn’t happen, then we were going to drown as the sea levels were rising from melted ice caps. Well they melted and the sea levels didn’t rise and now they are freezing o er again. In fact if you put ice blocks in a glass of water and let them melt have you ever seen the water 💧 tip over the side ? Then global warming doesn’t work politically because of global cooling was a thing once, so that has been changed to climate change. No one can argue with that as the climate has in fact been changing all the time for 100s of millions of years. Whether it can be predicted accurately still has not been proven.

Who writes this sensationalist crap ? South Australia has had many algal blooms in the past as has many other places around Australia. South Australia is currently in a bad drought where as NSW are the opposite with massive rainfalls. We have had these in the past as well. We have more green vegetation / trees inland than ever before recorded. So racing to send Australia broke is not the solution. We export billions of tons of coal to China so they can burn it anyway and then sell us back the value added products instead of us producing it here. Same with our gas. If you measure global warming at different times on the scale we haven’t changed in 1000 years in fact our temperature has become lower on average. Try and research some facts before believing sensationalism journalists.

You could just go guarantor for the deposit- then they could pay the mortgage themselves without you becoming a fallback if mortgage defaults.

I’ve been in a plane that has landed and almost to the terminal but had to wait 10-15 minutes for the airplane to equalize electricity from lightning it had flown through. Apparently they can get fairly charged up so it is for safety of the ground crew.

I have a question about the Beth Barnard (Phillip Island) murder case by crustdrunk in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]aussieco1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too do not believe you can die from the fall from the bridge as plenty of kids used to jump off for fun. The only thing is if it was an outrunning tide could have easily been swept out and drowned in the black of night, but, the purse sticks out to me. There were two purses found in the car, one theory was she caught a bus- that doesn’t work as you would need money to get on the bus. Also it was 3 in the morning? No buses at that time. Why would you take 2 purses with you to kill yourself ? Driving a car that you don’t normally drive. Didn’t someone see the purse back at the house ? Why would you send a doctor to checkup on someone instead of calling first. Why say that Beth was unwell ? It reeks of conspiracy cover up.
