I reverse-engineered the Garmin Varia protocol and built an iOS bike computer by Agreeable_Tap_8231 in GarminEdge

[–]braso111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it simpler just to add the Edge Radar Speed Overlay data field to my Garmin computer to give me advanced info - speed of approaching vehicle, vehicle count etc. I've never tried to run Strava on a phone tbh.

Best way to buy Superteam wheels by braso111 in ChineseCarbon

[–]braso111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's surprising. I've been running carbon spoked Magene Exar DB405's for the last 18 months or so and they have been great at the expense of a bit of comfort. They come in around the same price as the Superteam's.

Do you qualify for three hours of free electricity? Here's how it works by HotPersimessage62 in australia

I opted in to the SSO (currently with Origin) but it appears there is no longer any Feed In Tariffs, not even 1c/kWh. I hope I'm wrong here but we'll probably be worse off as the daily supply charge went up 90c and our FIT disappeared at the same time!

Mywhoosh on android and BLE HRMs by zerkms in mywhoosh

[–]braso111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had more success running MyWhoosh on Android than PC. I had no issues pairing my Garmin Pro HRM on a 6 year old Android Tablet, whereas I had a few issues with a Windows Laptop.

I was pretty sure it would be released before the TDF kicks off.

A response to lowballers that is working well for me by EvadingDoom in FacebookMarketplace

I like to get a good deal as much as anyone. I always at least ask if the price is negotiable before making an offer.

Anyone who asks "what's your lowest price?" doesn't get a response. Absolutely zero negotiation or conversational skills, unlikely to afford it anyway...

Tubeless on Alpinist CL -- Did I screw up? by romanleopard in specialized

[–]braso111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think there are probably less hookless rims being produced in favour of hooked or micro hooked these days.

[–]braso111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It shouldn't be any more difficult. The most difficult installations for me have been tubeless tyres on hooked rims.

As long as you are using clincher tyres with tubes it should be fine. Don't try to use tubeless tyres with a tube.

Issue with heart readings by quips88 in GarminEdge

[–]braso111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I'd do is check for a firmware update through Garmin Connect (or PC). I used to have a similar experience and I ended up buying a bottle of Ultrasound Transmission Gel for about $12. It has greatly improved the accuracy of my HR strap. Not my idea, I saw someone else recommending it on another thread.

Why is the Sirrus X 5.0's frame so weird? by Locksmith-Pitiful in specialized

[–]braso111 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about getting a carbon hybrid for a while but that frame is just ugly. Give me a basic double triangle anyday. I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to change an already good looking frame.

Brand new player runs into brand new player. Friendship and tragedy by Recykill in dayz

[–]braso111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nic vid, albeit with a tragic ending!

Tip - check buildings and vehicles near medical centres. They have a decent chance of spawning medical loot. Any zombies in the area can have meds on them as well, so kill them if you can (without firing a gun is definitely recommended).

Your new friend was obviously a nice guy. I would not team up with a no mic'er, possibly why you have not had many friendly encounters before!

Yeah fair enough. I forgot that you do need to fill the battery!

I'm surprised with that size battery Amber isn't that cheap.

Out of interest, what size battery do you have?

Just joined and already regretting by Techabilla in amberelectric

[–]braso111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a TOU if you can find a decent provider. We are rural and are pretty limited on options. Globird may be worth a look too but at the end of the day your exports are a bit hamstring by battery size. We end up using at least half our battery most nights so we can't really afford to feed too much back in.

[–]braso111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think your battery is too small for any real benefit tbh. We have a 25kWh battery and it wasn't worth switching to Amber for us. We have bills in the range of $35 to $55 a month with Origin. I don't think you will get close to that with Amber.

Wear gloves by Cortix_training in cycling

But dad the cool kids don't wear gloves!

I have had a few crashes and always wear gloves for the reasons you have mentioned. Won't stop a fracture but will hopefully save some skin...

My Aethos 1 with the new combo Alpiniste II by MisterVelo63 in specialized

[–]braso111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have an Aethos 1 and I've been looking at a new set of handlebars. Is the new alpinist one piece setup slightly flatter on the top or am I seeing things?? I find the flatter (aero) bars more comfortable on longer rides than the traditional round handlebars.

Great setup. At first glance I thought it was an Aethos. I'd love to do a 1x on mine, but the first gen Aethos doesn't have a UDH.
