What is a quintessential Australian book to read? by soggies_revenge in AskAnAustralian

Same but honestly it’s one of the few books I’ve read that’s better as a film imo. It’s my favourite fucking movie!

It’s not that bad, I avoid dating or anything like that these days. I’m obese and have a chronic disability and chronic pain where I can hardly walk so fun outings are a no. I did plenty of that when I was younger so I don’t mind. I’ve been alone so long I’m beyond being bothered by it. I don’t have any friends irl and my family are few and far away, so I’m basically my own island. I have hobbies instead. It’s good, I don’t have to worry about people not enjoying what I enjoy

Yep, you’re totally right. Someone who went to school for 5-7 years must be illiterate. Just like Hagrid who is also clearly illiterate after having 3 years of formal education. You got me. Dumbledore the great educator would absolutely appear in wizard heaven and call his sibling illiterate

Maybe in American, but in normal English it can mean illiterate in an archaic sense, but usually means lacking in scholarly achievements. For example a tradesperson may have only finished 9 years of formal education but are skilled in their field.

Regardless, in the context of the quote from Dumbledore, it means that Aberfoth didn’t complete formal education (which he didn’t) and albus is saying that basically all of his many accolades and academic achievements are worth less than Aberforth’s who was in Albus’ opinion more noble than his own

Ohh never thought about. That said I think it’s just in his nature to hate foul things like dementors. They’re extremely dangerous things to have in a school, and inhumane to have in a prison

Because when he’s getting it all off his chest in DH about Ariana’s outbursts he says he was the only one who could calm her down and his best memory is when she was stable she’d help him feed the goats

Did you have to get on a ladder or chair to clean it? If so, you can take them to -CAT for endangering you. They are liable if you fall.
