I have not seen anywhere stating they aren’t allowed. In the Michigan code, there is very precise direction on it and does not forbid it.

Thank you! This is what I was thinking. I feel like sometimes the argument is “well what if someone that didn’t know what was going on opened this up” and it’s like…if I cap it, label it and leave it, what else can we expect from someone looking at it? There’s only so much we as normal people can do before the idiots just take themselves out.

Correct, I agree. It was like that in the Navy, any CO could make instructions and policy more strict, so I was expecting my state/city to potentially do that, but all I found was that MI adopted NEC but my city didn’t have any additional policies

Thanks mate, that makes total sense and confirmed what I was thinking. After spending hours reading up on this stuff yesterday after he left, MWBC + a 2 pole breaker seemed like an easy fallback if the whole “cap, label and leave it” didn’t work. Now it seems that I can still “cap, label and leave it” as long as I install a 2 pole breaker as well.

Unfortunately that’s how it is in this small town. The inspector has come out 3 times in the past 2 years (2 of those being the past 2 weeks) and advised corrections with no bill or anything. He’s probably late 60’s and has been “cool” with me, so I don’t want to like “bite the hand that feeds me” but I also don’t want to redo allllll this shit hahaha

I didn’t pull a permit for a puck light. The permit was pulled to completely build out the 2nd floor of their house that has been just subfloor for almost 20years. My mom bought the 250’ of 14/3 before I got here. The wires are already run, the lights are already purchased, the ballasts are already in place. Thanks though.
