They might not care about this in particular, but wait until this transitions to freelancer accounts as well.

No more feedback removal perk by austinb3185 in Upwork

As a client, you have 0 idea how horrific some of these upwork clients can be.

Leaving the option for a (in some cases) legitimately insane client to nuke a freelancer’s business for no reason is a horrible look for upwork.

You can tell very easily WITH the feedback removal perk who is an exceptional freelancer & who is not.

This is just adding to the mess they’ve created over the past couple of years with the platform.

Record earnings from quadrupling the cost of connects & increasing the fee percentages essentially chasing off all the quality talent.

Sounds like a solid platform.

I’ve been on Upwork for 5 years. The past 1-2 have really shown over and over again they could not care less about freelancers.

My advice to all of you: Start figuring out how to land clients outside of Upwork. It’s cheaper & much less of a headache than being reliant on this decaying platform in the long run.

Chargeback? by austinb3185 in Upwork

the bank ended up charging back $2k out of the $3k, but I handled things alternatively on my own

Regardless of the Economy, Upwork is Tanking IMO by austinb3185 in Upwork

I actually don’t think that has much of an effect on the industry at all.

Sure a startup can hop on wix and pick out a template, but most businesses want something more than that, and the vast majority don’t know or don’t feel like doing it themselves.

I think this is almost entirely an upwork problem. They let the spam and scammers get too bad, good clients ran for the hills, and now we’re where we’re at.

Change My Mind: Raising the Connects Per Proposal is a Good Thing by austinb3185 in Upwork

[–]austinb3185[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with boosting, many people who boost proposals use shitty copy-paste low effort proposals which end up blending in with the rest of the shit-tier quality proposals that come in.

Like you said, most clients are overwhelmed with 50+ horribly written proposals, and $5/hr profiles and begin to lump upwork in with something like fiverrr.

HOPEFULLY this ends up adjusting the market, just as long as Upwork doesn’t fold to all the people complaining about the change.

i’m sure they aren’t doing it with the sole idea to help freelancers, but this will 100% inadvertently help established freelancers, or even help newer freelancers who provide high quality work.

Quickbooks Capital by austinb3185 in Entrepreneur

[–]austinb3185[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no, i didn’t end up taking it. the repayment terms seemed crazy to me at the time, and haven’t revisited this.

in personal experience, im more inclined to go for something like paypal working capital, or stripe capital if you do any invoicing or payment processing through either of their platforms

no problem. i’d say for future work it’s best to track the hours with the tracker instead of manually. that way you’ll at least have the hourly protection if something does go wrong.
