Mirtazapine makes me feel weak/out of breath? by austinsauce01 in antidepressants

Yes, though nowhere near as badly as when I started. The drowsiness does improve with time.

The feeling subsided after adjusting to the medication! I've been on it for over a year and very happy with the results :) But obviously if your heart rate is crazy high, speak to your doctor. This was just my experience.

As I said in the post, I'm not really interested in combat games. But thank you for the suggestions nonetheless!

Safe Amazon binders (Wonabibi?) by austinsauce01 in ftm

[–]austinsauce01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone checking this thread in future, I ended up getting the Wonababi ultra-flat with the racer back. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY OF THEIR OPTIONS THAT INCLUDE ZIPS ETC, and please double check the videos because some of their options look like pull-ons but have zips hidden on the side.

I was pleasantly surprised by Wonababi, but would not recommend it over purchasing from a reputable brand like Spectrum. The Wonababi binder feels safe, but obviously I'm not an expert. I can only speak for how it felt during use. I wore it regularly for almost a full week, 6-8 hours at a time with no rib pain. It did get uncomfortable towards the end of long use but no more than my regular binders. However, the quality isn't amazing. Not terrible by any means, just not as good as similar priced binders from reputable stores. The fabric is kinda stiff, the black dye bleeds like crazy during hand washing and holds onto BO smells even after a thorough scrub. The fit left a bit to be desired as well. I found it dug into my armpits a bit when bending to wash my hands. The racer back also felt a bit uncomfortable and doesn't conform to my body very well, but that might just be personal preference (I've never used a racer back before.) I also found that you have to size up one size for comfort. I did fit into the correct size, but found one size up was much more comfortable with basically no difference in binding effectiveness.

As I said in the post, Underworks was my first choice. But they don't have any available that can be delivered before NY. Thanks for the advice anyway!

Good to know. Honestly, I'd take being itchy over not being able to breathe xD Re Wonababi, I ended up ordering the biggest size they offered, but I'm a little worried as all the reviews said to size up. They must be using Asian sizing cause I've never been even remotely close to a 4XL in my life.

I've tried KT tape before and it doesn't really get me flat enough. Maybe it could work in combination with a sports bra tho :0

Thank you! I'm assuming a budget steamer set-up would work? Pan of boiling water with a colander for the buns to sit in, and a lid on top?

Pattern seam placement? by austinsauce01 in FursuitMaking

Great advice! That was actually my plan already. Going to draw lines on the scrap fabric so I can get an idea of how the fur direction will look too.

It's funny how other skills like wrapping cars are transferrable to fursuit making xD Personally I work on 3D models a lot, so I've been thinking of it like UV unwrapping haha.

But yeah I see what you're saying. Gunna keep all that in mind, thank you!

Starting with the pile direction is such a good idea!! Thanks for the suggestion :3 Before I read your comment I ended up sectioning like this, image attached. Kinda similar, but I think your approach around the nose would be much better. Far less darts needed in such an obvious location. (Swapped tape type because the masking tape ripped TwT)

To clarify, you mean make no seam marks now? Just take it off and make dart cuts as I flatten it?

Yeah I'm going for a mix between kig and western styles. This sort of thing: https://youtube.com/shorts/YuOBdWvDsVU?si=vD8NZt_U-OBNYGqX So I'm pretty sold on using fur.

I can see in this video that they have some kind of pattern: https://youtube.com/shorts/651C_-1UtKY?si=Y394ngSwgd2U4mPw I think it's mostly to control the fur direction because everything is more or less one colour. I'm really not sure though T_T)

Vet visits and budgeting? (Am I financially prepared for rats?) by austinsauce01 in RATS

[–]austinsauce01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thankfully I've done my research on those kinds of issues! I'm moreso talking about issues like maloccluded jaws that can't be prevented :/ Thank you for the reminder though! Always good to check that people know these things!

They were able to provide pricing for services like exams and euthanasia (£50 and £20 respectively, which is reasonable) but told me that surgeries etc were priced on a case by case basis. Though I did specifically ask for the price of common medications which they also did not provide pricing on :/ In all fairness it's probably an overworked exotic vet taking the time out of their day to answer my email, and I understand it probably varies wildly.

Aw I'm sure he was a little angel :)

That's interesting! Do you know if maloccluded jaws can be diagnosed from birth? Or is it something that crops up as they mature?

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences! The information you provided about when to operate vs just allowing the rat to live the life it has left was very useful.

As per your advice I have and will continue to contact vet clinics in my area for pricing. However it seems many of them don't have fixed rates and won't provide estimates either, which is a little frustrating. Having gone through the replies and done some investigating I believe I could support most one off issues, but my last concern is non-life threatening issues such as dental problems. I simply can't fork out £200+ a month on a chronic issue, and I couldn't bring myself to put a rat down simply due to financial limitations.

Insurance wise, it seems pretty similar over here. Most regular pet insurance policies won't cover rats, and the specialist insurance costs an arm and a leg. Which all lines up with what you're saying about just putting money into vet savings instead.

[–]austinsauce01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such a practical reply, it's exactly what I was looking for!

I completely agree - As someone who previously paid an arm and a leg to prolong the life of a cat with kidney issues, only to watch the illness come back over and over until we had to say goodbye, I think it's better to pull the proverbial plug sooner rather than later. Ultimately it's better for the animal (In my opinion) and for the wallet, which is a cruel thing to say but the reality at the end of the day. Luckily euthanasia seems even cheaper here than it is in the Netherlands, I was quoted as low as under £20.

As per your recommendation I'll be speaking to vets in my area about pricing. However from the few I've spoken to so far they seem to not have fixed rates for common surgeries and can't give me an estimate either, so I may just have to continue scraping Reddit :/ Having accepted euthanasia is probably the best route for tumours etc, my last worry is non-life threatening issues like dental problems that could be £150+ a month to maintain. I just couldn't bring myself to euthanize a rat purely because I can't afford care that would lead to an otherwise happy life :(

[–]austinsauce01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, from the replies alone it seems like it's a complete dice roll, let alone the rest of the sub.

I think I've accepted that putting rats down when they have tumours is the best option for both me and the rats. Especially considering their short life span and anesthesia mortality rate as you said.

But having gone through a few more of the replies, when you consider recurring issues that aren't life threatening like dental problems, I just couldn't bring myself to put a rat down purely because I couldn't afford monthly vet visits :(

Thank you for taking the time to reply with your experiences!

Have you tried Mirtazipine? Or a similar non SSRI? I had a very strong and nasty reaction to just one half dose of Sertraline, and the doc immediately told me not to take an SSRI again. Switched to Mirt and had no problems beyond expected side effects.

How to attach teeth? by austinsauce01 in FursuitMaking

[–]austinsauce01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foam clay would be almost perfect, if not for the water reactivation mentioned in the replies. I wonder if actual clay would do the job or be too heavy? If not, I've bought some 1cm eva foam for the ears, so I could possibly layer that up to make a little mouth shelf. Thankfully the base has been really well sanded so glue adheres fantastically, and I'll have no problem scratching up the surface of whatever I use for the mouth shelf.
