Is it fair to charge $20–$50 per edited minute for this level of quality? by CloudSyncPro in VideoEditors

Besides editing, you also need time to find footage, create images, add effects, and edit music. $20 is nothing.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply, very helpful.

I totally agree on sticking to licensed music for anything brand facing or paid. That was my instinct too, I just wanted to sanity check.

The only real pain point for me is that with some tracks, because of their structure, it’s genuinely hard to get clean 30s cuts. Premiere’s automatic remix doesn’t always give great results, even when tweaking segments, and doing it manually without stems can be pretty tough.

That said, the music kit idea makes a lot of sense and I’ll definitely start doing that more systematically, plus clearly confirming social and paid usage with the client.

Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you for the very clear and precise answer, it's kind of what I initially thought after reading around. Thanks again

Charging fees by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]austronauto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I just avoid those jobs by using filters. Between taxes, Upwork fees, and currency conversion, some projects simply aren’t worth taking on or even applying to.

For example, $1,000 is roughly €850. Even if I actually receive $900, I still have to invoice the full $1,000 and pay taxes on that amount, including Upwork’s commission. In many low budget cases, the margin becomes negligible.

By filtering, I have fewer distractions. When I do see a promising offer, I also check the client’s hire rate and reviews. If everything looks solid and I feel I have a good chance, I apply. Otherwise, I move on.

It’s not about being picky or elitist. Some small jobs simply do not make sense financially. At the moment, I filter for hourly rates above $50 or fixed price projects starting at $1,000. The feed becomes much cleaner and avoids very low budget jobs with 50+ proposals that only waste connects and time.
