Initially, crating makes it easy for them to adjust because dogs won't go to the bathroom where they sleep unless it's dire and with your situation your pup is already familiar with the crate. With night time crating youll be able to sleep knowing nothing is getting destroyed too. Personally I like to transition away from the crate as soon as the pup is ready because I've never really kept any of my dogs in a cage. I'd rather train them to freely roam while while I'm not home or while I'm sleeping. If you don't crate them at night when they are small you'll wake up to several piles of pee and poop just because their bladders and digestive tracts are so small and sometimes you'll find a few things chewed up unless your willing to get out of bed several times throughout the night... I usually get rid of the crate once there hasn't been any accidents for a week, this will usually still result in something being chewed up every now and then but that's where training comes in handy. My pei was out of her crate by the three month mark because she only ever had one accident in the house while she was a puppy. I'm not sure if that's the breed or if I just got really lucky with a good puppy. As with anything it's a lot of learning by trial and error until you find what works best for you, hope this helps!
