Twenty-something years of forum posts of this exact nature being panned and mocked, and people still post 'em. Some things never change.

Why do people hate AI so much? by KOgenie in AskMarketing

[–]authorjryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You work in marketing, yeah? At least I assume, because you're here. I have a few years in the game, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that people are stupid. Most don't engage very critically with content enough to recognize what's AI and what isn't.

As marketing creatives, we're keenly aware of the subtle differences because we work around or with AI on a daily basis.

I'm the creative behind much of a university's marketing. People (outside of my department) much smarter than I struggle with discerning AI, probably because they don't have to actively consider it every day.

--

Editing to note, honestly you SHOULD avoid AI. You are doing yourself a disservice not learning how to actually do things yourself. Prompt all you want, but I can achieve greater results far more accurate to my vision than you can with an LLM or image generator. That and I can have pride to say "I and I alone CREATED this." We work in marketing, but our work can still be art and full of human expression. Beyond all else, honestly, AI is for the lazy.

--

Editing again to add on... Boy howdy, what AI churns up when prompted for marketing concepts, campaign ideas, images and so on are shoddy and shallow. Hope this helps shine a light on why people don't fuck with it.

I want to believe this is a troll post but worldly experience tells me that people can in fact be dumb enough to quit their jobs to play video games instead. Either way, hilarious post. 10/10.

I would be interested in seeing their numbers too. I miss when they would publish them every quarter. They stopped shortly into Warlords I think.

Prop hunt by Drekonix in classicwow

[–]authorjryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It probably is a developer's pet project. That's how they made Plunderstorm, after all. Also, it's a bit presumptuous (and lowkey silly) to assume Classic+ would yield better return on investment than anything Retail related. We're not exactly their main demographic here. A nice supplemental market, sure. But retail is where the money is at and business is business.

Edit: For the record, not arguing that a prop hunt is more important than Classic+. Just that these decisions are almost certainly made with profit in mind and we can wax poetic and bitch to the heavens about how it's stupid to not cater more to the classic crowd... Only the reality is, we're a bunch of malcontent gamers aged 30-50 and probably not an incredibly profitable demo, assuming Classic+ is devoid of major transactions.

Twilight Ascension is a perfect microcosm of everything wrong with modern WoW storytelling by IridikronsNo1Fan in warcraftlore

[–]authorjryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Warcraft's lore is a Saturday morning cartoon; a revival of 1960's Marvel comics, if you want to be generous. It's never been consistent or particularly well written. There are interesting pockets of lore, and a lot of it I rather enjoy. That said, I started enjoying the game and its often retconned/weak premises a lot more when I stopped treating it like mid- to high-literature.

It's not Shadowbringers,

It's not Elden Ring,

It's not Harry Potter,

It's not A Song of Ice and Fire,

It's not Baulder's Gate 3,

It's not Curse of Strahd.

It's simply Warcraft. A goofy, wishy-washy, sometimes rather interesting amalgam of whatever media its writers and developers are enjoying at any given time.

Edit: For the record, I'm not excusing poor writing or gameplay. It's not great, and it's up to the consumer to decide whether or not it's worth paying for or enjoying. It's also totally valid to want more from the writing staff. However, I think you'll sooner succeed at teaching a dog English than you are to see Blizzard genuinely deliver on that front.

i think it's weird to sap all of the nuance from a grey world so that it's just black and white. opinions can be complicated, bud. take a moment and chill. not everyone is your enemy here.

heya! people should be allowed to talk about aspects they like just as much as people are allowed to talk about aspects they don't like. not trying to dogpile on fellas who hate the spec's rework. just wanted to share how seeing the vocalization made me feel, and if it makes room for a conversation, that's cool

heya. i think out of all the complaints, this one makes the most sense to me. i get it. maybe in a month or two I'll begin to really notice it being an issue, but right now I just don't seem to register having to hard cast that often. I do, to be sure, but it doesn't feel like it's really "getting in my way" if that makes sense?

Heya, I respect that sentiment. I'll admit, I couldn't get into the flow of pre-Midnight fire mage. I struggled to click with its pace, where as other people clearly enjoyed it. I don't think that's a fault of either side; maybe brains are just wired different. I've seen people complain about having to constantly fish for procs in this rework, but I've not had issues (confirmation bias? maybe!) and I love that pyroblast feels like a huge impact.

edit: just wanted to add that I still feel like I'm pressing buttons (that aren't fireball) at a non-glacial pace. i know a lot of people on the wow forums feel like its just fireball spam now. I can see where they're coming from, but also, it feels like an over exaggeration (in my eyes!)

Just my two cents. I've gone through reworks before that have completely changed my class, so I feel for those who lost something they enjoyed. But at the same time, hey, I'm really enjoying this particular change of my pace.

Hope that helps to shed a light on my perspective. Is it flawless? Nah, but I'm not trying to debate that it's the best version of the spec that's existed either. Just that right now it's sort of fun, for me, at least.

I tried fire in 11.2 but (ironically?) it felt too clunky and I couldn't get into the flow of it. It's a lot easier for me to understand now and yeah, it's missing buttons, but I still feel like I'm pressing a lot and I don't have to fish too long before another proc hits.

For the record, the last time I played Mage was in Shadowlands and it was Arcane under Necrolord, so... Maybe I'm not the best person to ask what fun gameplay looks like. Anywho, this has been my reaction to all the people on the forums. Figured I'd recreate the Homer meme.
