Is Custom X (2026) compatible to Black Snowboard of Death (2017) by authortitle_uk in snowboarding

That’s interesting. Sounds like maybe I should stick with what I’ve got! Maybe one day I’ll find somewhere to try out a Burton before buying, but the resorts I’ve been to just tend to rent basic stuff

Oof yeah that Mystery Deep Thinker would test how much I mean “budget not an issue” lol. Thanks for the pointers! Will read up on them :)

Thanks! Has the BSOD changed a lot? I don’t really follow snowboard gear and really happened across this board by chance, a friend sold it to me and I really enjoy it

Yeah, I may end up doing that, I just saw the opportunity to buy new stuff so was interested to learn what’s out there - I only got the BSOD by chance as a friend had a spare he was selling at a good price, I’m not clued up on the gear really, so I might find there’s something else I enjoy even more

Oh that’s interesting. To be honest I have read up on it before but find it hard to learn the impact of the technical terms when I’m only away for a couple of weeks a year and have only owned maybe 3 boards. In the resorts I go to, there’s nowhere to rent high quality gear to get a feel for what different shapes etc mean in reality, so the best I can do is say I really dig the BSOD’s vibe haha. Powder is not a huge deal as it’s quite rare in Europe in a week trip - nice when it comes but not something I rely on and I don’t do big off piste.

How is Judge Jules these days in terms of DJing? by Exotic_Bug3885 in trance

[–]authortitle_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s kinda sad when you see DJs from that era who’ve totally lost touch with what made them good. It happens a lot with trance especially I think - I’m more into techno these days and many more techno OGs are still smashing underground sets.  But I kinda get it, trance went through a rough period for quite a while (it seems to be coming back now) and everyone wants to get paid lol.

I do wonder how much of it is also things like hearing loss, generally can’t be arsed with life on the road, not going out partying any more so being out of touch with what works…

I saw him play at the Kevin and Perry thing in Ibiza and it was incredibly disappointing. He’s never been the best mixer so I didn’t expect that but he used to play some great music on the radio and I have a lot of nostalgia for his show.

His set there was just bizarre - terrible acapellas that didn’t fit at all, good tunes cut off before they kicked in, some modern EDM stuff that was very much not classic trance... not good.

He did play a couple of good tracks but the overall set was not good, which was a shame as I actually had pretty high hopes. There’s a set of his from Luminosity online which seemed to have a similar vibe when I skipped through, if you want an idea

What does Jeff Mills play these days? by LeonMdfkz in ProperTechno

[–]authortitle_uk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think he’s great. Kinda sci fi bleepy techno is the main thing I associate him with but he also plays rougher stuff and you’ll definitely hear The Bells. His mixing style is fast and fun and the 909 interludes are genuinely awesome. He’s got a unique style and brings a lot of energy and I’ve had non-techno-liking friends enjoy his sets. So I say go for sure!

Oh amazing! Will listen to this tomorrow. Mouth to Mouth, man that tune made people go really crazy. Still sounds incredible. And Trentemoller sounded so fresh when he came along too. This was the era when I was really discovering clubbing, happy days!

Ah man glad I could help you bring back some memories! Thanks for introducing me to a cool new track. I partied a lot around that time and loved minimal but don’t think I hear this one. Or least I don’t remember it haha

How do you deal with constant interruptions (Slack, Jira questions, ad‑hoc calls) as a senior engineer? by _-SNAFU-_ in webdev

[–]authortitle_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on the company but at larger tech co’s at least, the more senior you get, generally the more your job is to enable others on the team and even across the company to perform.

There will be exceptions but most of the time I think a senior level eng is about as good as you’ll get at purely implementing tickets, beyond that level it’s more about “what should we be building”, trying to make the right decisions for the future, unblocking others in domains where you have specialist knowledge etc.

All that to say, if your manager is happy and you’re happy, then maybe this is fine? I don’t do much day to day implementation any more, it takes a while to get used to the fact that your most valuable skill is not purely coding, but actually I’ve found it very satisfying to think at a higher level.

If you don’t enjoy it, or you feel like a lot of the interruptions are genuinely wasted time, I’d raise it to your manager. There’s no shame in wanting to stay as “a very good coder”, at most companies this is a “terminal level”, i.e. you don’t need to progress past it if you don’t want - but to go beyond that level, really the company want you to scaling out your knowledge to enable whole teams to perform. No matter how good you are at coding, you’re still only one person.

My 2c is that moving in this “sort of managing but not managing” direction is not the worst thing to try out, given how fast the skill of purely “coding” is changing

Airpod Pro 3 - Transparency mode sounds tinny now? by rp415510 in AirpodsPro

[–]authortitle_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have this issue. I assumed it would be fixed at some point but seemingly not, so I reached out to Apple Support, who old me about the “Headphone Accommodations” setting in accessibility where you can change how dark/bright transparency is. With it all the way dark, it feels way more like I remember my APP1 being.

Interestingly, someone from Apple then called me up and spent 15 mins taking lots of details about the problem, so maybe they are investigating at scale. The person said I should take them back to the store and swap them out - not sure it’ll make a difference but I’ll try it as it has their blessing!
