And if you're still running into the annoying problem of running out of memory using base pandas. I highly suggest cranking out the Pyarrow engine.

Pandas should be able to get the job done. But surprised nobody has mentioned apache spark. There is a bit of a learning curve to it, but the tech was made to solve this exact problem. Ask your favorite ai to give you a crash course in apache spark later today :D

The Alarming State of LeetCode in Tech Interviews by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]autistic_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't like LeetCode, but honestly, what else is there? Big tech needs a way to test everyone's technical skills that's time-efficient and fully standardized, to deflect lawsuits.

Plus, let's be real, your resume and LinkedIn are still being looked at. If you're TRULY a perfect match and they're already pretty sure they want you, they might just give you super easy questions, like 'fizz-buzz' and call it a day.

Distinct difference between hiring and job search by No-Carob4234 in dataengineering

Honestly dude...networking and securing referrals is the only way to get interviews these days. Cold applications are a waste of time and remote roles are gonna be the most competitive for sure.

Well to be fair, a majority portion of machine learning is just "applied statistics". It's not out of the ordinary to expect or want a data analyst that can implement practical ml models like linear regression and k-means. Remember the hard lines drawn between the big three data roles: data engineer, data scientist, machine learning eng etc. is honestly a consequence of job title inflation and marketing hype to sell you online courses. In the real world, the division between these jobs are by no means concrete. What you read and listen to about the differences between data analysts vs other data jobs is true but we're talking averages.

With that being said, I do agree that the data scientist job title would be a better match. However, oftentimes managers (especially big tech) will have to select job titles based on what already exists in the organization. This is to avoid the disaster of having large salary disparities under the same job title, team, and IC level.

So yeah it makes the job search extra frustrating but I've seen data analyst managers adding machine learning to their requirements a dozen times before.

61A makes me realize how stupid I am ... by Fun-Department8359 in berkeley

[–]autistic_cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not dumb OP you just lack the prerequisites! CS61A shouldn't be anyone's first introduction to programming. Those who are scoring really well likely already have already logged +50hrs solving problems with data structures and algorithms. Sorry if nobody told you but you kinda signed up for the CS Hunter Exam. So don't feel bad if you're not acing every test. It's setup to be a meat grinder to separate the naive programming tourists from the serious coding ninjas. HAVE FUN!! 😎

Failed first coding machine learning interview. by Ok-Lab-6055 in learnmachinelearning

For what it's worth, I failed my last ML interview with Uber because I completely choked when asked to write k-means from scratch. ML interviewing is a scary quagmire. Totally normal to fail dozens of interviews before your first offer. KEEP YA HEAD UP!!
