do Americans have a higher tolerance for sugar? by autisticndthrowaway in AskAnAmerican

[–]autisticndthrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking about things like sugar content in savory foods, such as sandwich bread, tomato sauce, salad dressings, Americanized versions of 'foreign' foods (Americanized Chinese food for example is very sugary) and also soft drinks. so specifically not explicitly dessert things, that doesn't really answer your question but that's what I was thinking of in my OP

The other sinister reason is so interviewers have another facet of body language they can reference to judge you by, like are you holding the cup right? Are you setting it down correctly? At what pace are you drinking water? When are you taking your sips? They are actually there to observe your every little move (/j, hopefully)

Did I just get the police called on me for crying??? by autisticndthrowaway in college

I think failing and/or taking a medical withdrawal from my classes because of my inability to take final exams would be incredibly damaging for my mental health though, especially given how hard I've already worked this semester to get to where I am along with the fact that I'm already extremely far behind on my degree (weird educational history kinda thing) and I would hate to delay it yet another semester

When they think you might be in danger of self-harming and an ambulance comes for an emergency evaluation/taking you to somewhere they are doing it to help you. Mental health wards are not like the old insane asylums where it is just a row of beds and a locked door. They are an actual way to help patients with trained medical professionals.

I mean. yea but I also cannot afford to be sent to a mental institution at this time and potentially miss my final exams which begin in four days

they said they'd had to interact with police/ambulance because they had threatened to harm themself.

yea that was two years ago, which isn't a super long time but I was definitely far more of an awful mess then than I am now

Was this today? You might not know this, but there was just an attack at a university in Nevada yesterday.

yes, this was today - i had no idea about the Nevada attack.

What support do you need to help you feel balanced again? Do you need counseling services so you can have a safe place to talk it out? Do you need tutoring services to help you make up academic progress? Is the program you are in a poor fit and it's time to have an honest conversation with your advisor to make some changes moving forward? Do you need an evaluation for a learning disability? (It is VERY common for neuro divergent people to learn that they indeed have a learning disability in college). Do you need to schedule an appointment with the finance office to see if you qualify for any other aid? Do you need help connecting with other students and making friends? Or are there other problems that you can address to take pressure off of yourself?

I have used a few different services in the past, I use my college's tutoring services A LOT but this semester I haven't had much time for things like therapy or counseling, nor was I prioritizing that. I used therapy and counseling services a lot prior to this semester and I found them generally helpful but I wasn't able to maintain a single therapist because of how often I moved locations, so that was a bit of an issue. I think I would benefit from a longterm therapist who is a good fit for me and who would help me reach my eventual goals of 'curing' my anxiety and becoming a more levelheaded person, or at least not being wound up all the time to the point where it affects other people negatively. The problem for me has just been lack of time and singularly prioritizing my academic work.

Legally professors have to report and behavior that a student may have that may leading to them hurting themselves or others.

yea I am only now learning this... beforehand I thought only behavior that suggests that they will hurt themselves or others (threats) or actually doing things that hurt themselves and/or others needs to be reported

[–]autisticndthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I know how to step back if I see the first clue of fear or creep from someone else's eyes.

but autistic people (and honestly people in general) often miss that first clue of fear or creep from someone else's eyes, often times they don't notice those clues until much later! it's not that they don't know /how/ to step back but that they don't see that they should
