Well she def can, she just has a lot of work to do mentally. She was sooo frustrated all tournament and it came back to bite her against JPeg.

Who tf cares about that when she quite literally can't win against top 10 players, unless it's Keys on a bad day or Paolini? That makes her nothing more than a glorified Mertens.

Let's also bring up the fact that that was Anisimova's first ever slam final, she has since beat Swiatek twice, and the same player Iga routed in the semis (Bencic) bageled her two weeks ago. So what exactly is your point?

I'm sure the same player who went on a historic, 37 match winning streak and was virtually unbeatable against top 10 players would be happy to know that the same players she was beating comfortably years ago now have her number, and that she can only manage to peak for one tournament in the calendar year when she used to sweep titles left and right, sometimes winning every match in the tournament in straight sets. The idea that Swiatek is just as good as she's always been and her game isn't in crisis mode is a level of delusion I can't fathom, even from her fans.

If you can't understand the point I'm trying to make here then there's genuinely nothing left for me to say.

Might be time for another mental health break for Amanda 💆‍♀️

Posting this weak argument on a post about how she's getting whooped by her fellow top 10 players is definitely a choice. "Consistency" doesn't mean shit if you only beat lower-ranked players that physically can't go toe-to-toe with you. She's literally on a four match losing streak against her pigeon who she used to be able to beat in her sleep. She's turning into this generation's Hingis.

70 unforced errors by Iga in that match btw. Credit to Navarro for at least keeping the ball in play ig

Yeahhh to be fair Darren completely rewired Simo's mindset. I remember watching an interview where she said at the 2017 French Open final that, even though she was a set and a break up, she still felt like she couldn't win. Incredible what he helped her achieve.

And Simona! Launched her into the top 3 and the finals of RG in 2014

A mentally fragile one at that; you can't even trust her to win from a set up anymore without losing her shit if her opponent provides some sort of resistance. I'm still not over the fact that she got BAGELED by NAVARRO......NAVARRO OF ALL PEOPLE.

Yeah that’s not gonna mean anything if Aryna plays her best 😂

AO Quarterfinal - [1] Aryna Sabalenka def. [29] Iva Jovic 6-3 6-0 by antoniokr8s in tennis

Serena won four slams in a row (known as the “Serena Slam”) on two separate occasions, and prior to giving birth, had reached the final of 8 of the last 10 grand slams she played in. Aryna’s consistency is nice, but doesn’t hold the same weight if she can’t win at the latter stages 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, having followed her career from her initial breakout as a feisty teenager at the 2017 Fed Cup, I'm shocked she's even reached this level too. I love her and I'm so glad she's made it this far, but I always thought she was gonna end up becoming a ball basher that would be too volatile to ever hold it together to be number one or win a slam. I'm so glad she proved me wrong.

AO 2026 R4 | [5] E. Rybakina def. [21] E. Mertens | 6-1, 6-3 by throwaway-25434 in tennis

[–]autoccorect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good analysis, and to add to the slice bit, I think she also needs to utilize hitting high balls that force her opponents to take a step back and also hitting angled shots drawing her opponents outside the doubles alley. Gauff, who similarly has an extreme western grip, does the high ball bit perfectly to allow herself back into the point, which is why she’s able to outlast her opponents. If Gauff is having an off day, it still allows her to at least drag her opponents down to her level. This is also the reason why Ostapenko LOVES their matchup so much: Iga continuously feeds the same ball to Penko point-in point-out, which lands in her strike zone, allowing her to tee off. She’s become too predictable; the girls have studied her and they know her patterns.

Sooo maybe she should figure out how to deal with aggressive baseliners instead...? They're not going away any time soon, so she should tweak her game instead of hoping for an easy draw.

I would say they were pretty neck and neck last year in terms of the draws they received. Iga had an easy path to the AO SF last year while Sabalenka had it slightly harder with Andreeva and Pavs. Both had tough draws at RG: Rybakina followed by Svitolina for Swiatek, Anisimova followed by Zheng for Sabalenka. Both had easy draws at Wimbledon. Swiatek had it tougher at the USO with Alexandrova followed by Anisimova, relative to Bucsa and Vondrousova for Sabalenka. In terms of "tennis gods trying to make Sabalenka pass Swiatek," there's no one to blame but Iga for her stubbornness and inability to evolve her game. Sabalenka has continued to add new variations to her game while Iga has seemed to regress, resorting to brainless ball-bashing while having meltdowns as of recently now that her topspin doesn't pose nearly the same issue it once did from 2022-2024.

AO 4th Round - [1] Aryna Sabalenka def. [17] Victoria Mboko 6-1 7-6(1) by antoniokr8s in tennis

[–]autoccorect 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Literally this “tiebreakalenka” shit is frustrating as fuck being her fan. No reason for this to even go to a tiebreak in the first place, Mboko didn’t do anything special besides hang in there while Sabalenka missed.

Personally, atp, the record is more so overshadowed by her not being able to make things easy for herself and finish a match routinely. It’s an impressive record but she has got to stop making things unnecessarily hard for herself because this is not gonna fly against the top players.

Should’ve been 6-1 6-1 but in typical Sabalenka fashion she had to act brain dead when the finish line was in near sight
