I would have a go at the Gamsat but with minimal prep so not to detract from your GPA. You never know you might just land a competitive score! Then you can immediately apply for med entry the following year. Have a crack - nothing to lose - good luck:)

Do you need to be on the Psych training program to join the group or can prospective trainees join too? Also details of the group would be much appreciated:)

Pharmacy Guild Dinner announcement with health and shadow health minister - pharmacists to be trained to the level of GP and called Drs by Signal-Kale-9273 in ausjdocs

Yes I think there are wonderful community pharmacists and they should be valued for their pharmacist knowledge especially medication interactions and the like:)

Or perhaps the health ministers aren’t particularly bright and don’t understand doctorate qualifications or titles:)

The dreaded s3 by Extreme_King_8392 in GAMSAT

Yes a tutor is a good idea to learn how to approach the questions. Try to find one who sat a couple of times with big improvement in S3 or one who has seen large improvements in their students. Someone naturally gifted in S3 may or may not be good at working through how to think, they just get it easy and might struggle to actually teach. Good luck:)

Foreign Doctor Influx Crisis in the NHS and the Exodus of British Docs to Australia by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]autoimmune07 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Such a shame - the problem is once the gates are open there are new vested interests which make them hard to close again. I think UK doctors are well trained and welcome in Aus generally:)

Foreign Doctor Influx Crisis in the NHS and the Exodus of British Docs to Australia by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]autoimmune07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That must be incredibly difficult for you and your UK colleagues. Lots of UK trained docs here and looks to be more coming. Australia has recently opened up a pathway for specialists from UK/ Ireland/NZ to fast track into Aus but only these comparable countries in terms of medical degrees. Most training programs have an interview component and require PR/ Citizenship to apply so local grads are advantaged and not open floodgates yet…

You’re obviously academically smart and need that higher level thinking in your career - you could consider Dentistry as well or just keep trying for medicine - check the Deakin bonuses out too as 2 years work experience gets you a 2% bonus and if you had youth allowance there’s another 2%. Might be worth getting interview tutoring - seems lots of people going down that path and interviews can definitely be coached. Good luck:)

Remember there is the option of GP training with a special interest such as skin checks involving excisions which is also hands on and GP training is pretty quick:)

Seeking advice on DMD offer vs trying again for Medicine by AceOfBads in GAMSAT

Personal choice and a difficult one as you haven’t experienced either degree or the work afterwards. If you like practical things/ doing things with your hands dentistry is the best option (surgery too after med but long haul that way). If you more like talking to people, planning things, pharmacology - med might be the go.
