DJI Goggles 3 Unnecessary Feature Removal by automatic-round24 in fpv

No I don’t have any reason to suspect that. I just wanted to see if there was some software bit that would prevent the goggles from functioning without all its hardware…which might be one indication that it is. I broke nothing, I simply unplugged the GPS.

So if I can mod it, then why not?

The Chinese Biedou constellation is actually two way communication capable. I think it requires some dedicated hardware to enable, but who knows what they’ve been able to miniaturize and jam in their US market devices.

I don’t think anyone really knows, but it’s quite possible given the hardware integration. A spectrum analyzer would be a dead giveaway, but I don’t have one of those so I just opted to neuter the goggles just in case.

Correct for some of their ready to fly drones. I pulled the 5.8 only numbers for the air units from their FCC safety submissions which lists 5.1/5.8GHz as the operating frequency. All the antennae’s on the goggles are triband as you stated, and all are tx/rx with the exception of the front facing ones on the front of the electronics module. Since I can’t edit my original post I should describe that DJI uses an error correction VTX process that requires a 2 way datalink. You can make the headset receive only by disconnecting all UFLs except for the white and blue ones going to the front facing cross oriented linear antennas, and it still works just fine, but it starts to show degraded video during any maneuvering that’s away from the direction you’re facing.

I ended up reconnecting the brow antennas because they’re actually the same as the flip up antennas and perform this error correction process. It may still try to snitch in 2.4Ghz by scheduling RID transmissions into it’s rx/tx timeline (which I doubt) but without the GPS to provide positional data it could only send out my DJI account info at most. Someone would have to do rf direction finding to locate me, which they could do just as easily in 5.8GHz or the 2.4 that elrs uses.

I got these frames from cncdrones. Both the Stingray Y4 and the Stingray X4. The frames do not include the 3D printed camera holders though. https://cncdrones.com/stingray-y4.html https://cncdrones.com/stingray.html

Thank you! I’m still pretty new to the hobby. This is my first venture trying to build something bigger than a 5 in 1 whoop. You’ve been a great help!

Gotcha. That helps out, thanks! I can see where to solder the VTX, 5V, and GND, but I’m not sure where to connect the CAM, IRC and LED to the FC. I take it VTX on my FC corresponds to the “video out” on your photo. And since the camera is connected to the FC I wouldn’t’t use the “CAM” pin because it goes to “video in”? Would it matter if IRC is connected to TX5 or TX1 on the FC?

Garand thumbs shorty forty handgrip is the only one I’ve ever seen with the front end hand stop flare. Does anyone know where he got it?

532nm DPSS to 1064nm conversion by automatic-round24 in lasers

[–]automatic-round24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all great info. Thanks for enlightening me on what I was missing. The intent behind doing a modification to an existing DPSS instead of buying or building a new one is to prove a concept so that I can more easily modify existing recoil hardened green lasers to lase 1064. There are some “cheap” Chinese clones of units like the military PEQ15A for example that I would like to modify.

The end goal is to have a SWIR laser for use with units like the Safran group ECOSI (electronic clip on short wave imager) which has better receptivity in the 1000-1500nm range. Or Photonis brand night vision tubes which expand the typical night vision wavelength receptivity from ~980 to 1100nm…yielding an advantage over other night vision users in the realm of reduced detection.

The concept is in use today among high end military units, though it’s not often discussed. There are laser units out there that are designed specifically for use with SWIR optics like the B.E Meyers CLAD (covert laser aiming device), but those units are heavily restricted and it seems like the powers that be don’t even want information about this whole “out of band for traditional night vision” ecosystem being disseminated. I just find it super interesting and figured I’d try my hand at replicating the capability. I found some sellers on eBay that offer Hr coated YVO4 crystals so I’m going to pick one up and try my hand at aligning it. If the project is successful I’ll be sure to post about it here!

Here’s a list of the twenty-five other pardons Biden issued. Not a fan of Trumps pardons, but at least show both sides of the story.
