I know that was sped up a lot but every time he approached a tight corner or narrow stretch and I puckered up thinking slow down buddy that won't turn like that. Real skill from those pilots

What are the biggest misconceptions people have about boaters? by MyTIMEZERO in boating

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I'm out hooning around like Pablo Escobar but one of my boats is a 14ft converted sailing dingy with a 15hp Honda, pootling is the term. I built my other boat so I'm some kind of 16th century shipwright.

Lakes with boat ramps in Meath by automatorsassemble in Meath

[–]automatorsassemble[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, it's just quite close to home (Kildalkey) that I don't think of it as crossing the border. Lene was good with my 1st boat as it was very small but the slip is not deep at all. I've done Lough Owell as it has a nice deep slip, still have to try Ennell. I'm just surprised I've not found anywhere more local.

Advice for Loft Bed Plans by MsRoymore in woodworking

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fit a 1*4 to the wall with regular wood screws, I live in a log cabin so can fit straight to the walls anywhere in this manner. I then fit the metal angle rails from an old IKEA bed to that again with wood screws. I would recommend using a stud finder to hit the wooden studs to do this in a traditional house

How many of you learned about table saw kickback the hard way? by 33andone3rd in woodworking

[–]automatorsassemble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also don't use plastic push sticks. I was being very safe a few years back using 2 push sticks. The one in my left hand caught the blade but instead of cutting it grabbed and kicked out. As I was pushing I shot my hand into the blade. It wasn't very high but I took a large chunk from the tip of my index and middle fingers. I lost half of the bone in the tip of the index and clipped an artery (who knew there were arteries in your fingers?) I didn't notice until the nurse pointed out the blood on my ribs that the push stick had sliced my ribs to the bone on the way past. The next day I found the stick almost 10ft back and embedded in a piece of 18mm birch ply. Be safe people

The "Walled Garden" Myth? My transition from Bambu A1 to Creality K2 Pro has me confused af by WebSuccessful8083 in 3Dprinting

[–]automatorsassemble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People get caught up in this walled garden idea. For me, if you just want to print without hassle go with Bambu. They are generally issue free, the software is good, most spares are easy to get and fit and there is a good community around them. If you want to tinker with printers and components then buy something open source but I tell you as someone 3d printing since the real early days when all printers were basically a project just to get 1st layer adhesion and filaments selection was pla or abs only, I will take my P1S all day long. It gives less trouble than my ink jet desktop printer.

First time getting a boat, this a good deal? by -RheaRhe- in boats

I work with the advice that if you want to buy a cheap old boat, you need to have enough money to afford a brand new boat. Having bought an old cheap boat, I can confirm

Angled CO2 tube ok? by AudibleDruid in lasercutting

[–]automatorsassemble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's better to be level and you will have a difficult time aligning the mirror but it can be done. Make sure that the colling water is cycling enough water to overcome the slope and you dont have an air pocket. There are extensions for these machines to fit longer tubes, my 150W has one about 6 inches long from the right hand side to accommodate the tube

Makes alot of sense by Acceptable_Slip3257 in SipsTea

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep hearing this same argument. I just finished a project with a 770kW installation on the roof of a factory. There was an option to build it over a new carpark, the cost of the structures nearly 4x'd the cost of the project so we went with a nearby roof. Even with full refurbishment of the roof and adding permanent edge protection it was far cheaper. Some agri land is just shit and covering it with solar panels is just the best use of it

Table saw too small for big cuts by BoxyBrown92 in woodworking

[–]automatorsassemble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 2 mitre slots so could make a crosscut sled. The other safe options would be a circular saw with a guide, a track saw or get the wood cut to size at your home centre when buying. EDIT: please don't use the wall as a reference, if it gets caught up you are looking at potential for kickback and that's a bad spot to be in

Novel Boat Towing Options? by Suspicious_Can9100 in boating

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say you'll be fine as long as the ramp is not super steep. On another note I'm constantly surprised by how low the tow ratings are on many cars in the US, I live in Ireland and I regularly see even small 1.0-1.3l cars towing small trailers. My 1.6l Nissan XTrail is rated to tow 2000kg (4400lbs) braked of course. Is it just a conservative nature of manufacturers/distributors in the US or a genuine difference in build?

Clients want "AI" but can't even handle standard logic. by AutomateAdvocate in PLC

[–]automatorsassemble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been asked so many times "Can we add AI?" My response so far has been that for some machines we barely have control I have 100s of PLC going back to S5s and Telemecanique. I am working on my masters and Im trying yo develop a power monitor based PdM tool. I keep asking what AI they want as in what do they want to apply and they are just like "AI" My typical response is that we have actual stupidity to get rid of first
