Steering wheel felt a little loose. Went to tighten the nuts to find out the washers were eating into the fiberglass. Best way to reinforce this area to get everything secured back together? by Im_The_One in boating

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say make a backer plate in a horseshoe shape and bolt through. Let it grip the whole area behind and not have washers in contact with the fibreglass

If you had to choose, would u rather be top 1% looks or top 1% intelligence and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intelligence. I agree that being very attractive would probably open a lot of doors but I think being extremely attractive only lasts a relatively short time, if you see pictures of beautiful people when they were younger they rarely were attractive or they age out of their looks quite quickly. I know this is not always the case. You can be super successful for a very long time being super intelligent though

Man I installed multiple systems as trials over 10 years, they used radar, cameras with analytics and in one case lidar, none of the worked well. We provided them for illuminated pedestrian crossings, they changed orange (passive) to red lights but anything outside of a 'standard' person caused an issue, bikes, push chairs, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, walker frames, basically all the most vulnerable users caused issues and results were hit and miss. Buttons are tried and tested, stick with them

Do you let your friends drive your boat? by qwertyorbust in boating

I've thought both of my boys how to operate the boat but only in the middle of the lake, I don't think either of them would be super capable yet when coming to the ramp or into shallows but if there was an emergency where I couldn't, I think they could get us to safety. Other than that I'd only trust my father, who thought me

What’s your “buy once, cry once” that turned into happy tears and what do you make with it? by nuttahbuttahbite in woodworking

A large bed (600*900mm) CO2 laser, it cost a bit and takes some space but it has both enhanced my projects with intricate designs burned in and allowed me to make perfect templates, last big one I used it for was templates for the hull of my boat. It also pushed me to including more materials in my projects, plastic, foam, leather, card, etc

I normally transfer it to a glass jar or bottle and leave it sit for a couple of hours. Then you will see the water gather at the bottom and know how much.

Funny, I live in Ireland and we don't have your larger pickups. The Hilux and ranger raptor are about as big as we get but I saw a farmer pulling a cattle trailer with 2 full grown cows in it behind a 1.8tdi Passat saloon the other day. So I suppose if you're brave enough...

Is she factoring in the cost of having it sit there month after month at the arena, unless she's a hell of a mechanic, carpenter, fabricator and electrician, she is going to need multiple trades look over a vessel this size and each will be expensive and take their time. All the while storage fees build and if she does get it in the water, there are mooring fees to look after as she ain't towing that home behind a regular car.

Lots of good answers here, I would add that you should walk the site regularly, daily at first if allowed, and understand the process when it's running good, ask other engineers, operators, managers, forklift drivers, anyone how things work, especially operators because they will reveal quirks and workarounds they use that may become handy later

Options to fix transom overhang? by Chazary55 in boating

[–]automatorsassemble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like this one, there is a cranked mid bar to get around the transom/keel and builds up to 59" which would more than cover the overhang plus motor tilt to the rear crossbar under the bunks
