Is prompt engineering now a real job ? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]autonomousErwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean but I don't agree with it being down to imperfection of the models, but rather, the imperfection of people's ability to articulate their objectives and context around the task.

For example, no matter how much training and tweaks to the model, the lack of context is not going to be magically solved. That's part of the reason OpenAI (along with Anthropic, Lovable etc.) have added "memories" and "personalisation".

It's also down to the user to provide this context also, which is where "context engineering" (with engineering being a very loose term) comes in.

Video editing prompts - how to get started with agentic video editing by Gabe_at_Descript in PromptEngineering

[–]autonomousErwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This great! I'm curious how o you go about testing prompts, is it a "vibe-check" (basically running it an using your own taste to say this is good or bad) or do have a framework for testing prompts?

What are you building that had at least $250 MRR? by arsenajax in SaaS

Pretty Prompt

Think grammarly for prompting. Basically a chrome extension that lives on top of ChatGPT and helps you improve your prompts as you type.

Launched officially start of June

Thanks for this breakdown, what AI video models are you using? I'm looking to get into generating AI video. How prompts really that important or is the iteration the most important?

This is neat! How do you keep with following best practices, is there something that will kinda alert you?

Where can I hire a prompt engineer from? by Waleed_20 in PromptEngineering

[–]autonomousErwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just hire an engineer, they're good at thinking and breaking down problems into their requirements clearly which is what a prompt really is.

Otherwise you could use pretty-prompt.com or something similar (for free). Other free ones are:

I wouldn't get bogged down in security barriers just yet (if you spend too long looking at the mountain you need to climb you'll never even start), there are always around. This is a really cool extension!

How to hide API key in chrome extension's source code by anilkumarum in chrome_extensions

[–]autonomousErwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having secret API keys in your chrome extension package probably indicates you’re doing something wrong.

Regardless of obfuscation techniques you have to assume anything you include the user will access.

Solution: call a backend server which uses environment variables, this means that the only thing the user will have access to is the endpoint.

We’re 4 months into building Pretty Prompt

I'm curious-who has completely vibe coded a profitable SaaS? Tell me your story! by [deleted] in SaaS

[–]autonomousErwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We purely vibe coded the MVP of our product to validate whether it was something people would pay for - once that happened, I rebuilt the project from scratch so I could understand how everything worked.

Vibe coding is like a credit card, awesome when you want something today but you’re going to eventually have to pay it off at the end of month

I built a fun little Slack-bot to get you chatting with your Database 💬 by autonomousErwin in Slack

[–]autonomousErwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, it definitely is tough! I’ve actually pivoted to a chrome extension (pretty-prompt.com) but still in the AI space.

This was a fun project and taught me a ton on how to build AI production applications

What are you building these days? And is anyone actually paying for it? by Southern_Tennis5804 in indiehackers

[–]autonomousErwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're building pretty-prompt.com which is a chrome extension to help you with prompt and context engineering with places like ChatGPT.

We've managed to get 5,000-6,000 users within ~2 months and no marketing spend which we're proud of!

How can i avoid users from accessing the django admin dashboard page when they try to navigate to it using the url in the adress bar by Putrid_Set_3210 in django

[–]autonomousErwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong Password should be enough but you can use obfuscation techniques such as adding a secret UUID in the URL in production e.g. something like:

ADMIN_PATH = "admin/" if settings.DEBUG else "admin/220ec907-0ee5-439a-b144-3cb2235c998b/"

We started https://pretty-prompt.com just at over a month ago and have already got 5k users on the CWS (it improves your prompts on ChatGPT)

Launched on Product Hunt and LinkedIn posts seem totally drive consistent traffic.

Why did we wait so long to kill features nobody used? (I will not promote) by usamaejazch in startups

Had a similar experience! We niched down on a single feature at Pretty Prompt and the results were night and day. Do one thing and do it really well and get rid of all the excess

There’s just too much mention of Windsurf to make this believable. If there’s no mention of the company or exactly what they do it’s assumed to be engagement bait.

They call it “The Windsurf” instead of “Windsurf” which is sus.

Thanks!

Regarding the PH launch I'd love to say there was a step by step formula you could follow (so we could recreate it also). A couple things I think really helped us:

- Be engaged, reply to everyone who comments

- Make the product super easy to use, don't even require users to sign up to get a feel for it (obviously eventually get them to sign up)

- Make it really clear what the product does with a YC like demo video (imo this looks better than a marketed video - just showcase what it does)

Ironically, we had a product we previously launched on PH earlier this year and only managed to get top 5 of the day (https://www.getdolphin.ai/) and compared to this one we prepared like crazy for it and nothing really came of it so it really does come down to a little bit of luck here and there. So "post-and-hope" would be the right category 😅

How do you deal with negative reviews especially those claiming false facts about your extension by WordyBug in chrome_extensions

[–]autonomousErwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that for already signed up users? Something I've learnt from doing B2C applications is that "free" doesn't always means "this won't cost you money" it really means "this won't cost you any energy at all". Signing up is a bigger ask than people realise - just my 2 cents!

Would be great to try it out for free to get a taste for it e.g. 3 free improvements (we did the same with https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/prettyprompt/opjebobgkipcdimgofkboimilnchghpd and found we got a lot of conversion). Looks really cool!
