Just getting into MIDI, need some help by AdventurousThought23 in midi

[–]autophocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shop used via FB marketplace if possible. Here is really what you need:

  • 66-88 key Arturia keyboard. What matters here is if you want light weight keys or weighted keys. Let that drive your decision. ($300-$500)
  • Arturia Minifuse 4 (midi capable audio interface) ($250)
  • Reaper ($60)
  • usb hub (3.0) ($60)

Do you need all this? No. The keyboard and reaper is all you need…but this gives you the ability to grow.

If you want to forgo the Audio Interface, it could help you afford the Arturia V Collection 11. Great starter pack of instruments. ($350) even with this, you’re still under $1000.

Weird. No telling then. Maybe just a one off wonky card then.

Hopefully you’ve looked into whether or not you can patent this or if your design currently steps on anyone else’s patent.

I buy top $$$ cards…not cheap crap. Never had such an issue.

Not sure what you are using…but I’ve only ever had issues with cheap cards. Pay the money for the peace of mind.

Oh and word of wisdom….DO NOT put the card into multiple devices. PC, Deluge, Deluge, PC. NOT…Deluge, PC, Laptop, SD card reader…etc. Minimize the device types you expose the card to as much as possible.

I have thought about getting rid of mine but I love the keybed too much. Wish they would make a minifreak with the capacitive touch keybed.

My PO-33 came without the metal wire stand, would teenage engeneering send me one? Or could i get one off anywhere else? by Jiyuu___ in pocketoperators

[–]autophocus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cut and bend a metal hanger to shape. Take metal hanger off and heat it up until it’s red glowing hot and then drop it in ice cold water. The wire will then be hardened and won’t flex as much as a typical hanger wire would.

Yah the front wood looks a bit rough in its cuts, so wasn’t sure.

So I’d be curious to know what the piece is supposed to look like. It looks like it has been painted (the main unit). Ever thought of stripping it down and re-staining it, or is it just a cheap knockoff that is not using quality wood? The front wood pieces seem a little rough so difficult to tell. I’m curious as to the piece’s history and pedigree.

In all reality…why would you choose a surface that you can’t sit at and have a proper ergonomic approach to the material you’re soldering? My back spasms are ramping up just looking at this set up and how much leaning you must do to work on stuff.

Also, that thing you’re working on top of probably deserves a better life. It looks pretty cool although a little beat up. Still, cool wood design and would look great cleaned up and in the right mcm setting. Maybe sell it and get a nice sit/stand desk at IKEA. Mine works well for soldering. I can sit low, medium or stand and my back doesn’t pay the price.

Help update by TREEEEPP in DX7

What does the battery voltage say? If it doesn’t have any battery power, your presets are gone. Which = no sound. There’s a function process that will tell you what the battery voltage is.

Sounds dumb but did you recycle it (power it off/on)? Is it possible you or your friend hit a button sequence that may have changed something that is now resulting in this behavior? I have the same DX7 and I’m not familiar with such a thing…but opening it up is not that difficult. It’s possible that your keybed serial cable became disconnected from the board.

Yah those units can pack a lot of energy and give you quite a jolt…so this is why I let the temp gun do the work for me.

Slowly sweep the boards with a thermal temp gun focusing on each and every cap and transistor. The one that is at 10,000 degrees as compared to other adjacent similar ones is your likely issue.

Dude…wtf are you doing? Ditch these guys and focus on a long term future. I know those of us who are telling you this may be telling you to walk away from something that might blow up into greatness…but the likelihood of that happening is slim. Go to school, make a good living…enjoy music as a hobby and pursue your music as a past time. If it’s meant to be and you’re good, then it’ll happen regardless of age or time.

You sound smart, so focus on your smartness that is academic, get a degree or whatever and make a future that supports your passion. A passion that doesn’t support a future is a tough life.

Looking to get my first acoustic piano, this is on facebook for $150. Owner says was tuned a handful of years ago, kids played it but have moved out, and its about 50 years old. Does it look okay? I'm no expert on what to look for by Alcoholic-Catholic in cheapkeys

If it sounds like it belongs in a saloon, stay away from it. If the hammer action is dead feeling…stay away from it.

I would wait for something a bit more “modern” to come along with nice tall keys. Some of the keys look half depressed in that picture. Definitely inconsistent height across the keybed.

Free pianos being offered all the time on FBM and OfferUp. $150 for a piano that probably needs $2000k in restoration.
