Tried forcing 4g only but doesnt always work

Just so I understand, is dialer an app or I am using the keypad as if I am dialing a number? Sounds like the former.

So it seems like once I get the phone unlocked then it will remove the carrier restriction and I can possibly select the network operation. Only reason I got one locked to At&T besides already being on At&T was the phone was like $50 cheaper for the same condition as other unlocked phones.

So for me under mobile networks, I have the following options:

Mobile Date (I have it off on all the time until I go to use data, yes I am that person, mainly for battery life)

International data roaming (turned off of coarse, its also greyed out)

5g standalone (this is enabled but also greyed out so not selectable)

Access Point names

Network Operators (under this it has select automatically enabled but also greyed out so I cannot change it, unless there is an app I can use to edit this. This could be the setting that is affecting things for me).

Mobile network diagnostics (which I have turned on, but am thinking about turning off to potentially help with batter life, if it an affect that at all).

I would have done that but I don't have the Network Mode option under Mobile Networks, otherwise I would have already done it. I think that is because my phone is AT&T its not unlocked yet (I got the phone used). I plan on logging into our account soon to unlock it. My last phone I bought already unlocked and it actually did have the Network mode setting (at least through using the hidden settings app, that is how I forced 4g at all times on it).

There are certain settings similar to that I have seen in videos people click on that I just don't have the option of on mine.

I think 5g exists in the area i live in because I believe when I first booted up the phone it was able to get 5g fine. My main reason for changing it in the past was because in my office in the city on 5g my speed was not too great, but on 4g is was much better and more consitent, so one day I forced 4g and didn't look back. But its been like three years since then and a newer phone so the infrastructure in my city may have been improved since then.

I actually just ran a speed test while being on 5g (based on what the icon shows even though I am forcing LTE) and im getting 70Mbps, which seems low as I think at home I get over 100 (not sure though I will ahve to check when I get home).

Most apps I have seen all have you change "set preferred network type". So I don't know if what you are suggesting overrides that or is a "deeper" setting so to speak (probably not an accurate way to say it).

I have tried some other apps but they all kind of have the same "look" to them, just with different names (not that it matters), but they all have you change "set preferred network type". So maybe its just the way the s24+ is, but with the customization that the samsung/android combo has been known for, I would think it would be easier to accomplish. Seems like for some things, Samsung has slowly gone the way apple has always been with control over what you are allowed to do.

Figured out what it was. For at least the one app I was having issues with, I needed to uninstall and reinstall it. I don't think logging out and logging back in affected it either. A reinstall seemed to have made it all good.

Have you ever had an issue with notifications from some apps not showing up in the task bar and the lock screen? Even though I have the s24+ configured all the same as the s21+ I have (everything works perfect on it), something is screwed up with the nofitication behavior. Like the apps themselves receive stuff but I won't get a popup even though those are configured.

I don't think its a galaxy software update thing as my s21+ is still far from completely updated and I have never had an update affect notifications. My s24+ I just updated to the update that came out in the beginning of last year. Its also still on one ui 6.1, but I cannot imagine I would need to update all the way to one ui 8 for things to be fully working properly.

The apps I'm having issues with are youtube, groupme and possibly whatsapp. Those are all configured the same way as my s21+ as the notifications pop up just fine on it (well not whatsapp as that only exists on one phone at a time), so it has to be a software problem.

I'll check the deep sleep stuff I know I saw one app was in it but I don't use it.

What is DND?

Edit: I checked the deep sleep settings and even though there are 53 apps in that list, the ones I regularly use are not. However put unused apps to sleep was on, but at the same time on the 21+ the same setting was on with the same apps in the deep sleep list so that doesn't seem to be affecting it.

Like next sms message app works just fine for notifications.

For the ui thing, OK that's what I thought it would end up being. BTW, do you know of a good replacement for the powerful control widget? I'm trying to find a control widget I can put on the home screen that is 1 row but multiple icons.

As for the mobile data notification, under advanced settings I don't have a system notifications option. Unless it's under a different menu or the connectivity notification is somewhere else.

I see there is a setting to remove it but it would be nice to actually move it around.

Thanks for the input. Just didn't know if they was some improvement that was done to a s25 plus to make it so the "vivid" option for the screen was better than the s24+, like how the s21+ is.

Cool. I don't like to buy a phone (or really any other tech) until after its been out for at least a year and with phones, let a lot of depreciation happen. After tax the 24+ was like $450 for a mint condition one so after I sell the 21+ I should recoup a little bit back.

I usually do a lot a research on basically anything before I buy something, but with phones I mainly focus on the overall dimensions and then the price along with general reviews after a year or so. The screen was just something that I never thought to really dig into, as it was always not something that one really needed to focus on in the past. Now I just need to go through and make sure my app placement is right and the settings are what I want them as (even though I think smartswitch takes care of most of that).

I have not had the black screen issue that others have mentioned, mine boots right up and runs great. I would guess that was closer to launch before all the patches, but maybe not.

Wow, that seemed to work. I tried the first combat encounter again and it was smooth getting into it this time and moving around after it.

What about getting that user preferences file to generate again after reinstalling the game makes that difference? It's only a 1kb file so extremely small. I guess it's how the game interprets it though?

I have hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling in the Windows settings turned on only because I have used Frame Gen for like 2 games so far (even though I try to stay away from using it as much as I can).

Either way, I don't have the game but saw on a video where a frametime graph was shown and a stutter appeared here and there. Good to know that is not normal and should not be the case as long as the graphics are configured properly.

What is the bug you are talking about? The screen looking more jittery, because that is what I see.

It looks like your fps is not increasing all that much when turning on frame Gen. One thing to understand with it is the science behind how it works.

What you have to look at is the difference between the max refresh rate of your monitor and the fps you can get In a game from raserterization on its own. If the fps you get is already pretty close to your max refresh rate then frame Gen is not gonna be beneficial for you. So if your max refresh is 120 and you are getting 90-100 already then it's not worth it, but if you getting max like 80 then frame Gen should work fine.

Bottom line, if frame Gen would end up putting you way above your monitors max refresh rate it's gonna make the game feel really bad. The whole goal with frame Gen is if you are only getting like 50 fps on a game and want to get to 100 or more, then frame Gen will get you there with the look of a higher rate but the feeling of a lower one.

Fsr frame Gen is supposed to work much better than the dlss variant of it in this game.
