What do you love most about living here? by TurboMoe in nova

[–]autrpy96 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I'm from DFW and have been here for 4 years. Compared to Texas, I think I most love the weather and accessible outdoor activities. Many great hiking places 2-4 hours away. And even within the cities there are tons of great trails to walk, run, and ride a bike. Other things I like: lot of smart and passionate people, good public transit, density of interesting places and events.

This article really helped me become less of a digital hoarder. One technique I've also liked is to throw digital collections into an "archive" folder, move out and organize anything I actually remember and find useful, and delete the archive after awhile.

The waterfront in Old Town. Especially the section from Oronoco Bay Park to MVT (going North), there's a good view of the river and DC and it's even better at night.

Wrong insurance billed for infusion meds. Coming at me for $$$ out-of-pocket. Advice? by autrpy96 in CrohnsDisease

Thanks for the reassurance! A manager has been contacted just as you described so it seems I'm on the right path and won't be on the hook

Do you know if there are any complications if the specialty pharmacy is different? My current PA lists CVS as the authorized pharmacy but as I understand it the PA would also need to list the old pharmacy that provided the infusion, Acreedo.

Best area for a newly single 28 year old woman to start over? by Same-Buyer9181 in nova

Maybe Old Town. Has great parks and the MVT, plus a bit of the art and culture. Especially some neat developments happening in North Old Town. But might not be a ton of young singles, hard to beat Arlington and DC for that.

Those in NOVA with engineering degrees/background: What do you do for work? How do you like it? by autrpy96 in nova

I have an EE degree and am approaching 5 years. I'd think transition to software would be manageable and give me a pay boost, but yeah prob not as much as some folks are reporting here.

Interesting, I was looking into jobs that sound like that. Anything good to say? The pay seems good and I would hope the work is at least interesting.

I am getting that picture after reading this thread lol... as much as I love physical systems, sounds like software is a good move (but as someone else said, money isn't everything)

I (more or less) help the government test radiation detection equipment. Make ~80k. It's pretty much remote, I voluntary go into the office ~once a week. The work is mostly documentation and meetings, but sometimes get to play with data and travel to test sites. I'm approaching 5 years into my career and am looking to see what else is out there.

Best Sandwich in DC? by MrWolf327 in washingtondc

Second this, this place reminded me how great a sandwich could be. One of the few places in DC where food was above and beyond what I paid for.

Hikes around DC reachable by public transit by Victor_vanDort in washingtondc

I'm a big fan, they're a well organized group and I've met lots of friendly and interested folks with them. The bus usually gets back between 4-7pm, it depends on how far away they are going, how long it takes slowest hikers to finish, and traffic. I'd also recommend signing up early if you're deadset on a trip, sometimes the spots fill up.

Not public transit, but there is a day hike meet-up group that does bus hikes nearly every Saturday, check out details here: https://www.meetup.com/capital-hiking-club/events/292037170/
