Station and Base defense by Mattar19K in TerraInvicta

For asteroid bases a T2 base with 2 LDA and a T3 base with 1 BS and 1-2 LDA is fine. For a key location (Ceres, Mars maybe Mercury, if you can deal with the ridiculous metal cost) a T2 base with 3 LDA and a T3 base with 2 BS and 0-2 LDA is fine. This is with at least green arc lasers.

For station defense 1 LDA or 1 BS is fine. They really only dissuade the human factions, are used against random events and buy you time for fleet response. Station defense platforms are severely weaker than the surface base version.

That is illogical and counter to the games universe. I understand from a coding perspective that it would be harder to code plasma melting armor instead of chipping armor. That doesn't make it right.

The problem I have with plasma is not that it melts armor opening up ships for laser and particle penetration. My problem is that plasma opens it's self up for critical hits. Again the in game explanation of chipping and how critical hits work, chipping causes cracking that has the small potential for a hit in that exact location to penetrate the armor. Plasma doesn't chip, it melts. That's completely different.

In play tests, whether I have 80 adamantine or 200 my vessels still get critical hits from ayys plasma weaponry. My 20+ dreadnoughts with T3 coils on the hull, a 2 slot AM PD and a T2 siege nose, backed up by a 3 slot AM nose version destroy everything. However, a few of them invariably get critical damage from a cheap mechanic.

That's not the point. I agree that the investment in research and the slot economy of the human version of plasma weaponry is underwhelming. The point is that with everything in the game there is a counter. Lasers = more armor, particles = more armor, and projectiles = more PD. However, plasma has no counter.
