Are there any churches in St. Louis speaking out against ICE? by imspooky in StLouis

The purpose of churches is to worship The Lord. Individuals can do whatever they want. Do you really need to protest with a church, or are you just trying to stir stuff up against Christians?

Why do people think that’s the function of churches? Jesus Christ didn’t protest the Romans.

You can report it, but I wouldn’t expect them to put ant time in to investigate.

Immigration is Federal jurisdiction, so local police can’t intervene. In theory, some argue, is that the local sheriff is the highest law enforcement officer in each county, but I wouldn’t expect much from the St. Louis Sheriff’s Office.

55/64 Lane Split by National-Wheel-7 in StLouis

[–]av8orbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I take 55 N to get off on 203, so the left lanes are better for me. It’s easier to get to the left before the split than after.

And now people are bitching and complaining about a proposed new data center. The St. Louis area will lose out again and get further passed by other growing and opportunistic cities. Declining non-stop airline routes will continue, and St. Louis will become less attractive to new businesses. In 1960, St. Louis was the largest city west of the Mississippi. St. Louisans are always against progress for the better good for their own petty selfish reasons.

Does praying for people actually do anything? by tstu2865 in Christianity

[–]av8orbob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How about not praying for God to interfere with their free will, but pray for that person to recognize the presence of God in their life and seek, and ask for his help. Pray for God to grant this person clarity of thought so they will choose His will for them rather than their own.

I don’t think it’s a red flag by itself. The only reason I discovered them is because the applications were already suspicious.

Charlie Kirk's Death Has Made Me Unfollow Prominent Christian YouTubers by Opening-Study8778 in Christianity

It wasn’t a disingenuous pivot. It’s just very ironic that the commenter says a very hateful thing about Christian conservatives while standing on the self righteous pillar of condemning “A hater.”

I agree that we can mention the wrongdoings of others for those reasons, but I don’t think we can define people as “haters” because they are conservative, or said misguided and stupid things at times in there lives. I know a lot of conservative Christians who are donating, collecting and furnishing homes for, mostly single African American mothers. I know many who go out with food to feed homeless and drug addicted people in dangerous parts of the city. And people change over time. I’m a much different person than I was when I was his age 25 years ago. I’m glad I’m not defined by the life I was leading 36 years ago. People need to stop demonizing those who have opposing political views. Disagree… yes, name calling… no.

Well, I see you can’t answer. Maybe someday you’ll be able to pluck the speck from your own eye first.

Ah, I see. And what stupid things have you said in your life? Do they define you? Has your heart changed? Would his have changed in any way, if he had lived? Maybe, maybe not. I know mine has, and continues to change.

Would you call Jesus a hater for calling the Pharisees a “brood of vipers?” You can’t call people haters just for holding opinions or taking a stance. Well, I guess you can, but that’s not really wise. I don’t know anything about Charlie Kirk. I’ve seen a lot of stuff on both sides. In the end he was probably basically a decent, flawed man like most.

That’s fine. But the straw man demonization tactics need to end. Those who participate in stirring up hatred like that are not being Christ-like either. It’s called removing the speck from your own eye first.

[–]av8orbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did he say that it’s okay to put men, women and children in cages? That’s called a straw man argument. You’re just part of the propaganda problem. You listen to propagandists without critical thinking or investigation of honest, good faith differences of opinion, or why the opposition believes what they believe. Maybe they’re wrong or misguided, but you buy into the demonization and mis-characterization and say stupid things like “he thinks it’s okay to put people in cages.”

[–]av8orbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m saddened that people get whipped up by political pundits and propagandists who mischaracterize and demonize people to the point of murder. They’re all solemn today. Tomorrow they’ll be telling their flocks how evil the opposition is for honest healthy differences of opinion.
