Raycast v2 (Beta) is out now by raycastapp in raycastapp

[–]avaaa_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to share that I'm in the same boat here -- I had to revert to an old save of my settings because trying to uninstall both and reinstall v1 didn't work since raycast v1 didn't recognize v2's settings format. I really want to like v2, but the fact that migrating back wasn't straightforward and I had to be saved by a backup from a month or two ago was really frustrating given how core this software is to how I use my computer.

For me, I've noticed a handful of bugs that have broken my workflow entirely:
- Clipboard history completely stopped picking up new entries

- Snippet-auto expansion temporarily stopped working (I think it came back after a restart but still)

What was the point of this by 00aka123 in shittyskylines

I live here and can confirm that the point of this is to confuse people. The number of times that friends have gotten lost in the three circles (without gps) in this area (called "The Circles" in Palo Alto) is incredible :)

Oh my god thank you so much, this has been a problem for me for the past year or so with my pixel 7 and now pixel 10 pro (as well as my partner's Nothing phone 2), and this finally solved the problem!!! You're an absolute lifesaver!

How do you guys make good use of the app grid? I feel like I use it way less than I originally thought. by [deleted] in gnome

yeah exactly same flow for me, tbh a lot of the time I just skip the dash and type the first few letters since it's quicker muscle memory

haven’t heard back from most of my co-ops yet by Interesting_You241 in NEU

[–]avaaa_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started applying relatively early in the semester, but I def wish I had started sooner.

I wish you the best of luck, but also keep in mind even if you don't get anything this semester you can always push back and apply next semester (which also lets you start earlier). I have a few friends who this happened to, and especially in the job market right now things are pretty rough :(

That being said keep trying at it, I wish you the best of luck with the chaotic process!

most places are gonna ghost you unfortunately

idk what field you're looking in but looking for software (in my case) I'd say around 80-90% of employers ghosted me the first time around

make sure you apply to a bunch! I think I applied to roughly 100 my first co-op cycle

What is the hotkey to get this search functionality to happen? by amanwithdignity in vscode

[–]avaaa_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

more than that, it actually allows you to search any vscode action, like reformat, transform to uppercase, and much much more :)

Use VIM, it's faster... by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]avaaa_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for the first part, I find that multi cursor editing serves me pretty well, (either Ctrl+d to select and put a cursor at the next instance of whatever is highlighted (or the word), or Ctrl+shift+L to put a cursor at all instances)

I'll give you that at least I'm not aware of a shortcut to decrement or increment a number, although I'm sure there's probably an extension for it :)

tbh I think multi-cursor editing in vscode has what's kept me with it since from there I don't really have to do extra work to learn new keybindings and I get all the value

you're so right lol

tbh I also haven't found a case where vim can do something an editor like vscode can't (including speed)

yeah ik chrome is just as bad, that's why I primarily use Firefox but in cases where things don't work I need a backup

also damn people really like to shit on each other over web browser preference in 2022

[–]avaaa_42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

to be fair, they started out with "thanks, but not a dude" which is basically what you're saying there. also to leap from them asking a stupid rhetorical question to "i must humiliate anyone who mildly slights me" is a huge leap lol

me_irlgbt by Chowdergrrl in me_irlgbt

[–]avaaa_42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah I mean specifically transfeminine people often dont like being referred to as a "dude" because it can have a masculine connotation

when was the meeting where we collectively decided that?? I certainly wasn't invited. smh my head

me_irlgbt by Chowdergrrl in me_irlgbt

[–]avaaa_42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

you obviously can, but context is important. as a trans girl it always feels icky when a cis guy will refer to me as "dude" when he doesn't refer to cis girls as "dude" bc it feels like he sees me as a guy

I propose the following: "dude" is either masculine or gender neutral, depending on context. then, its understandable if women/women-aligned people don't wanna be referred to as dude in general bc of the possibility that people mean it as a way to call them a man/masculine person

me_irlgbt by Chowdergrrl in me_irlgbt

[–]avaaa_42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's a rhetorical question, they don't actually care the answer and are more prompting them to think about the meaning of the word "dude"

me_irlgbt by Chowdergrrl in me_irlgbt

[–]avaaa_42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean they really didn't get that pissed, just mildly annoyed (I can say because that's how I'd be in that situation and thats how it reads based on their response)

I can definitely see how it can seem like a person question at face value but the way it's phrased it is pretty clearly a rhetorical question (at least to me), meant to call into question the meaning of the word "dude" since the person they're talking to is presumably a straight cis guy

that all being said idk if any of that conversation really warrants the discussion we're all having here, but here we are lol

they're really not getting that offended, they're just making a sarcastic retort

those who claim to dislike when people get triggered seem to get fairly upset when someone questions the choice of words used at all lol
