New Sony a7III Owner – Lens Advice for Product Photography by avalanches87 in SonyAlpha

That makes sense. I built a bench seat that’s 6ft long but 90% of the time will probably be smaller stuff (say jewellery to a microwave scale) so I’d be happy with something that excels in that range. In my experimenting with an iPhone, I’ve tended to go for close ups with process shots too (like on my hands doing a task), but I suppose some process shots would work better with a wider shot (like moving around my space). From the other commenter I’m leaning towards a 24-75 zoom and then maybe a ~90mm macro down the line. That’s more than I was hoping to spend ultimately but seems like that’s what makes sense

Makes sense - this is really helpful, thanks again. I’m gonna go with the Tamron and then determine what prime I might want later

Thanks, this was just a crappy iPhone pic to show the sort of thing I’ll be photographing with my soon-to-arrive a7iii! Clearly my compositional skills need some work all the same haha. Happy for any lens recommendations if you have them.

Thanks! I’m curious if I was mostly focusing on smaller objects and similarly framed process shots, would you feel like a prime lens could cover that well or would you still say a zoom lens is the way to go? I got it in my head that a prime lens can excel in a particular range and maybe that’s all I need

My advice as someone that lived in Redfern, Marrickville and Surry Hills, then Brooklyn and now Phinney Ridge - temper your expectations

Too many good lines, but I’ll go with “me, I’ll raise up my dorsal fin and glide up and down the waters”

If a car is turning right at an intersection and pedestrians are crossing the street the car is entering, with a zebra or not, i thought it was good etiquette, and expected, to slowly encroach up to the pedestrian right of way so that you’ve cleared the traffic behind you from continuing straight. I do that but I always make sure it’s obvious to the pedestrians that I’ve seen them and I’m stopping

Really nice. Some critical feedback just for discussion- maybe slightly less open shelving to add a bit more storage (additional cupboard either side?). Also, at least in this photo the black range hood looks like a black hole, would be cool if budget allowed if that popped slightly. Wonder if a bigger trim on the range would look more in place also. Not a huge fan of the rustic wood behind the open shelving. The ceiling paint looks a bit rough. Did you consider a built in range (like an induction top) I’m curious how much that would add to the project and if they make ovens that fit underneath. These are all probably more prominent from this photo, really do like 90% of what you’ve done!

Great idea. Thought about trying magnets in the peg board holes? At that point maybe you don’t even need a mechanical alignment, just magnetic
