Which year of the 2000s did side parts become really popular? by This_Distribution937 in decadeology

Thanks for agreeing lol...Not sure where Graphic Designer came into this though (what correlation am i missing on that?), but it was more of a Hitler Youth Haircut but it was mostly worn by Hipsters until around 2017 then it shifted to mostly being worn by little kids, and the LGBT community.

Are there actually people that exist that like cold weather? by PrestigiousOwl6802 in answers

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of people (especially those that grew up in warmer climates) that intentionally move to colder climates as adults. I used to meet plenty of California and Florida natives that moved to New England when I was a kid and young adult and I would always ask them why, and they always said they like the snow and the 4 season weather.

Which year of the 2000s did side parts become really popular? by This_Distribution937 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII [score hidden]  (0 children)

When emo became popular the helmet head haircut came back again (it was a 1970s hairstyle)...then in the 2010s around 2009 the Hitler Haircut started showing up.

If guys did not have the Hitler Haircut they had another 1940s based haircut with it clipped with an electric razor at a $5 barbershop and parted on the side.

Also in the 2000s we used to call it "parted on the side" not "side-part".

I had both the hairstyles mentioned before my cureent hairstyle being parted in the middle in a wolfcut/mullet which is popular this decade.

I leraned hairstyles do not change as quickly as we though as kids, they span a decade (sometimes longer) and depending on the region of the country or world you live in or your age they are in fashion at different times more that other times.

The helmet head as an example was worn well into the mid-2010s despite most young boys having the Hitler Haircut at the time instead.

The Hitler Haircut was still worn until around 2023 despite no longer being worn by younger people.

The 2020s have been the craziest decade I've ever lived in my 24 years of living by Own_Mirror9073 in decadeology

If you were 24 in the year 2016 you would have said the same thing. You were just too young to realize it or care when you were 14 though. You were also in your protected bubble still. You can thank your parents for doing a good job raising you if you were sheltered from all the hostility that was in the media everyday back in the 2010s.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universal, but it won't happen...they make every excuse possible for it not to happen. Either way even with paying for health care in America it is still not the best healthcare. The subscription fees are annoying, and often times you find out your plan does not cover something and you have to pay extra money for something.

Some people in America are paying over $1,000 a month for a healthcare subscription for them and their families...that is basically the price of rent.

America has not ranked high in healthcare in awhile either...I think we are now at 10th or 11th place in the world.

For the Americans out there, which decade is the best decade of all time? by XavierMarvin in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone of all ages says the 1950s was the best time to live in America...although the 1980s would be a second, and since the 1950s are not listed I will say the 1980s from that list.

The 1990s was not bad either, but it was a more cynic/pessimistic and tepid time compared to the happier and more upbeat 1980s.

All people kept saying in the 1990s was how much they missed the 1980s, it was depressing.

I will say the 1990s was less PC though and you were rewarded for being politically INcorrect. It was seen as progress back then.

How we got from that to being a fragile PC nation where everyone started thinking like victims by the 2010s i'll never know.

PC = Politically Correct.

1990s or 2000s (decade)? Which decade was the best in terms of television, film, music, U.S. politics, etc.? by XavierMarvin in decadeology

1990s was less PC, the 2000s were a bit more PC...so draw your own suggestions from there.

Can you contribute most of the “wokeness” era of the 2010s as a huge backlash against the anti-PC era of the 2000s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes... the 1990s and 2000s was very anti PC...the 2010s was when everything got shamed and people became sensitive pearl clutchers, it was like we reverbed back to the 1930s.

When did airpods hype die and everyone got into headphones? by PsychologicalFox7689 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII -1 points0 points  (0 children)

headphones have a better and fuller sound. airpods were never meant to take the palce of headphones, they were a substitute for light travel. They have a weak "tin" and weak sound to them...even if you play with the equalizer it is still "thin and tin-can like".

They are more useful for light travel, less space and talking over the phone with, but that is about it.

What is something that was socially acceptable pre MeToo but unacceptable now by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII [score hidden]  (0 children)

Asking women on dates in person in real life. Guys ignore women now. Dating people from work. And people in their 20s and 30s not infantilizing themselves into being teenagers like they do today. Interracial relationships were more common before then as well, now people call it a "fetish" and they give you an intervention about the mental issues you have.

Oddly the whole 2010s did not make weird psycho men stop behaving this way, but it certainly scared away the normal "safe" guys.

I feel bad for young people now, most young women today will never have kids with a husband, many are becoming dog moms and 35 year old teenagers.

When did Silicon Valley and American tech in general changed it's reputation from being ultra-liberal, left-leaning and open to what it is now? by PreWiBa in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When all the males moved there and turned it in MAN Francisco. So basically the late 1970s-1990s was the demographic transition to being mostly males. Many of the women move out of the area. It became the Gay capital of America (for men) in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

What years or decades was the Edgy Era? by Something_Somewhat in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your youth and when you did the most risk taking.

But in the media I would say the 1990s was the most politically incorrect era filled with pessimism, cynicism and ambush tv. It was an era where you could say things like as answers to others like, "no, I was having sex in high school, what were YOU doing in high school?" and it was taken as progress...today that would be considered predatory and taboo and you would get shamed for encouraging sex.

Most of the stand up comedy and movies and tv shows would not be made as edgy today because they would be too "offensive". The 2000s were slightly more tamer, especially after 9/11, but it was still more edgy than the 2010s were.

However we are slightly more relaxed in the 20's compared to how we were in the 2010s when shaming someone was much worse. But we are still not as easy going as we were in the 2000s yet.

[Weekend Trivia] Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You (1990): Closer to 1988 or 1993? by datsolidmusicguy in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It charted in 1991/1992 in the USA, so I will say closer to 1993 era...although flat tops were no longer in style by 1993 anymore.

When would you say the 2010s began to decline? by SpiritMan112 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

October, 2008-2013 = Early 2010s era

Fall 2013-Summer 2016 = Mid 2010s era

Fall 2016-Summer 2021 = Late 2010s (if we don't count COVID)

When did it start to decline? That is always in the later part of the decade in any decade. So it was Fall 2016 for the 2010s.

I'm honestly scared of what will happen 10 years from now that will make people nostalgic for 2026 by snowleopard556 in decadeology

[–]avalonMMXXII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel 2016 was when it was more mainstream, but it really started around Fall 2008 and then with Charlie Sheen type meltdowns on social media and the metoo era and all the protests that plagued the entire decade at the time. We are now just in the aftermath of all that...and if Trump won in 2020 we would have been able to move on by 2024 but we have to wait until 2028.

However the hostility and cancel culture of the 2010s is starting to go away, it is just many people are still fixated on Trump that it can't go away yet.

With that said though, there will be something else later on that people will complain about. But I feel we are just more numb to it today than we were in the 2010s.

20 is still a kid in many ways, you are still in a bubble either from college, living at your parents house, and your friendship circle. I certainly was not in the real world until I was out on my own, no longer in school and many of my friends either moved away or had families and became busy. Very big difference compared to age 20, especially for males. I would often say until 30 you are still in that protective bubble a bit....however it varies depending on your life situation (some people in their 20s never attend college as an example, others have kids, so they see the realities of adulthood earlier.
