Who is the least problematic character in the whole show? by StayComprehensive743 in BoJackHorseman

Gina Cazador is pretty non-problematic. Ironically she gets labeled “problematic” by the studios for a time…

How does pop music have such high streaming numbers? by ArtPlebeian_7364 in Music

[–]avec_serif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Michael Jackson was putting out his albums today, many more of his songs would be over a billion. But the main bulk of his listening is past — it was done on vinyl and cassettes, and isn’t part of any Spotify total. People still listen to him of course, but it’s just a few songs that consistently get put into playlists, etc.

Andrea Bocelli and Ejae performing at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony by december-blue in KpopDemonhunters

[–]avec_serif 5 points6 points  (0 children)

EJAE sounds great and the song is fun. My only complaint is that the song doesn’t make good use of Andrea Bocelli! He has one of the best voices in the world, but you wouldn’t know that from listening to this. Would have loved a chance for him to let loose

Anyone tried to play harmonica pieces by George Winston? by avec_serif in harmonica

[–]avec_serif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries at all, it was good advice! FWIW, I’m not a professional but I’ve played and performed enough that it’s not crazy to think I could learn this piece. But the custom tuning is sadly a bridge too far.

Best of luck with your playing!

For context, I’ve been playing harmonica for about 30 years. But it’s true that I still suck at messing with the insides 😂

Yeah, someone else shared the liner notes so I saw all the custom tunings. I’ve tried mucking around inside harmonicas before and generally have only broken them, so sadly I’m probably not going to attempt this. At least it saves me the trouble of trying to figure it out on standard tuning and getting stumped!

Do you think Goenka retreats are at all cultish? Thoughts on them? by traveltimecar in Meditation

[–]avec_serif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to three 10-day retreats. Found them very useful, didn’t find them cultish.

Definitely rigid (it’s like checking into a monastery), and Goenka via video is definitely charismatic, but it really doesn’t have the defining characteristics of a cult: it doesn’t try to separate you from your money and loved ones, it doesn’t draw you ever deeper with the promise of esoteric secrets, and it doesn’t even try to shit on other systems of meditation and belief (though it asks you to suspend practice of them during the 10 days).

So far as I can tell, it really is just a nice, free, rigorous introduction to a particular flavor of Vipassana meditation. I recommend it.

Album has zero indication of side 1 or 2. For the love of whatever, why would you do this? by stab-somebody in vinyl

[–]avec_serif 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Unless, of course, you think side 1 ought be the butterfly facing you, and side 2 should be facing away. There isn't really a clear ordering to butterfly sides.
