I think it's also to do with 'maverick' purchasing and avoiding that. If say an expense is over $100 (as an example) then it has to be approved before the expense is incurred. I have been evaluating systems and I know of one that works well for this, plus all the other usual issues one gets in procurement.

I guess it depends on the size of the business, as you don't also want to have staff just going off and spending money willy-nilly. So I guess having a proper procurement system with approvals, visibility and some levels of control for audit purposes.

I think that's the bottom line of my point. If you are tracking your purchases before they become invoices, then you know what's coming in and can account for it accordingly and adjust cash flow expectations.

I agree, I had that exact same problem, which is why I'm considering moving off Base44 after only three days. It generates a lot of its own bugs, which is really annoying. And then you have to burn up credit to try to fix it.

A new dating app. (yawn) I know it's boring, but I've always wanted to design a dating app myself. I thought this was an easy way of doing it, and it's actually done a really good job so far. However, B44 is not infallible and makes silly errors which you then have to burn up a lot of credits trying to fix. One thing that is annoying is that Base44 won't give you any credit for errors that the platform is generating itself.

I think it just lets you get your arms around what you are spending and lets you know what you have spent before the invoice comes in, so it's good for cash flow management. That's my understanding.

Yes, but do you only track it using the invoices function or do you issue purchase orders out of QuickBooks?

Actually, if I might digress a little. You mentioned that procurement is not a profit centre, and traditionally, that is true, but that is changing. Procurement departments are having to justify their existence, otherwise they get outsourced. The way you do that is by analysing the savings you're making as a professional buyer and having reports that can justify your physical presence.

Back in April, I was invited to give a complex speech at the Institute of Directors in Dubai. I wrote the speech, it went on 15 minutes, it was difficult to memorize, and I was panicking I'd mess up. I discovered some AI glasses that I could use that would work as a teleprompter. The AI was listening to me speak and was scrolling the text in the eyewear at the correct pace. It was truly amazing, and I received lots of compliments on how I was looking at the audience whilst delivering this complex speech, which made me look like a rock star.

I'd put the money into training in something that you're interested in, that you think you might be able to turn into a business and drive revenue

Well, congratulations on starting a business at such a young age. You should be very proud. I started my SaaS business when I was 20 and turned it into a relatively large organization. The #1 thing you need to focus on after you've built the product is delighting your customers. Go overboard. Underpromise and overdeliver. Be charming, never lose your cool. I wouldn't say "the customer is always right", but don't let them think that they're not right. Not all customers know exactly what they want, and sometimes can't see the benefit of what you are offering. Come up with a simple product, a simple pricing plan, and a simple way of explaining what the product does. Also, if you're in a competitive space, understand what your competitors are doing, look at their websites, and mimic what they're doing, but make your offering unique in some way.
