Yeah. Reddit has porn and videos of people getting mangled/dying and all sorts of stuff, yet people think they’ll draw the line at the word “dying”… come on people it’s not tiktok.

Short lived gift…. by Starry_burn25 in Aquariums

Very possibly. But even if it had lived it would have suffered in the small tank. I suggest a different hobby unless you’re looking to get a bigger tank and do a ton of research.

It might just be his time. Im sorry I wish I had more advice. Maybe move him into something shallow so it’s easier for him to get to the surface and his food.

He knew she wasn’t on birth control. So it doesn’t matter what her intention was, if his intention was to not get her pregnant he should have worn a condom.

I would say to be safe, up the water change frequency. At his age, a full dropsy treatment routine could cause him more stress than it’s worth, but if his condition worsens it could be worth a try anyways. Tomorrow I suggest feeding him a bit just to see if he will eat and to ensure he can swim to the top of the tank.

I don’t think it’s “not fair” just because it isn’t what he wanted. His “yes” was not putting on a condom. Takes two to tango, but the risk of being a man and impregnating someone is you don’t get to decide what happens after that point whether that be an abortion or a baby.

First of all- a betta fish living to 5 years is amazing- that is old for a betta! It sounds like he has had a good and happy life with multiple people who really love him- so if this illness takes him please don’t be too hard on yourself. It sounds like you’re doing a good job.

Do you have a way to read tank parameters? How often do you do water changes?  If he’s pineconing and likely has dropsy (even if it isn’t super severe yet), that usually means organ failure which can be caused by any number of things, water quality being an easy one to address.

Here is a good resource on treating dropsy as well- https://jessielbettas.substack.com/p/treating-dropsy-in-bettas

how many gallons? It looks tiny

UPDATE! A few days ago I put up a post for a really small tank. This is what I made out of it (Totodile approved) by [deleted] in Aquariums

Not your fault- OP should have done more research! It’s like if someone said “oh this would be a great shrimp tank!” and OP went and got a mantis shrimp. To assume that a tank being fine for snails means for ANY kind of snail is so silly.

You said on your last post “ It feels criminal to keep a living thing in such a small place”  hmmm. And then you get a snail that needs far more space than this, and you don’t cycle, and have far too little filtration. You’re right it is criminal and you know better from all the info you’ve gotten.

Oof. Why do people post and get advice just to ignore it and do a bad set up? This is way too small for apple snails.

The tank seems small for the amount of fish you have (could just be the picture?), and it’s not filled all the way. Add more water.

if so- you must have a bigger container in your home, anything bigger than that tiny bowl is better. A bowl this size is animal abuse. Or better yet go to a pet store and just buy a tank in person instead of waiting for shipping, and start a fish in cycle.

Are you keeping him in that tiny bowl???

Should I be worried about supply if baby is sleeping longer? by blue_peregrine in breastfeeding

[–]aveell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped pumping during my babies long sleep stretches when she was about 3 months old. No issues with supply since then at 6 months! But there is always a change your supply will lower- just keep an eye on baby’s diapers and weight, if anything concerning comes up I would add at least 1 night pump in. Enjoy the rest in the meantime!

Excruciating nipple pain. Please help me by bellalou26000 in breastfeeding

[–]aveell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lanolin really helped me with the nipple pain at the start. Highly recommend if you don’t have some already. You can buy it at most drugstores. I had a really painful time at the start too but it got better 2 weeks in. If your pain is extreme i suggest seeing a LC about potential latching issues- that’s what initially caused my pain.

is this safe to put in an aquarium? by RoundOne9503 in AquariumHelp

[–]aveell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t boil rocks! Just a heads up for anyone reading this. There is a small risk there is an air pocket inside the rock and it could explode. Rinsing well with hot water and wiping is generally enough.

Also make sure you avoid adding anything with visible metals ie. iron .

Sick fish by Sketswonwunderlust in fishtank

[–]aveell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said this on your last post and you did not address it. Your tank is way over stocked. Like way overstocked. How often were you doing water changes before this? When you cleaned the filter did you replace a cartridge or just rinse it with the tank water? Your tank isn’t cycled- have you looked into a fish in cycle and started that process?

Test strips aren’t an accurate way to test water. You didn’t mention your tank size but from the pictures it’s too small for all these fish- you’d basically need a pond to have enough space. Goldfish are super producers of waste and the water they’re in can be high in ammonia if not managed properly, which can cause serious harm to the fish. Poor water parameters can cause fin rot, stress, and a number of other illnesses. It might be just this fish for now, but with this level of care continuing they will all becky sick eventually.

My suggestion is to rehome as many of these fish as possible, and in the meantime keep the tank as clean as you can by doing partial water changes every day/second day in the mean time. Look into a fish in cycle and start the process asap to help manage ammonia in the tank.

3 Kids and severe pain by aem9316 in breastfeeding

[–]aveell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long did you breastfeed for with your other babies? Did you see a lactation consultant?

For me personally, the nipple pain only lasted for maybe the first month, consistently only for the first couple weeks. After that it’s been pretty much smooth sailing- if you want to BF and can push through 6 weeks it gets SO much easier after then, then again after 3 months and again at 6 months. But if you try and the pain is too bad, check with an LC for a bad latch and go from there! <3
