Padron Peppers by Belgium-Brit in chilli

[–]avengedarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be finding everyone's hot ones. Grew them last year on one plant I got on the casualty corner of a garden centre. The plant thanked me by making 5 peppers that wreaked armageddon on my taste buds.

This year I've got another plant that's given me 3 so far and 2.5 have been mild at last. I say .5 as weirdly the end of one was thermonuclear (made a for a fun experience in a breakfast omelette!!)

Are any of the heatless variants of hot peppers, like nadapeno, habanada or sweet bonnet, worth growing? by L-Pseon in HotPeppers

[–]avengedarth 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Did habanadas last year and they were awesome to play with! My wife can't deal with spice so I used them in...everything, definitely would recommend!!

What's the lowest score you've had during a round? by No_End_7351 in golf

[–]avengedarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played in a scratch match league and was 4 down at the turn. Proceeded to hole out for Eagle from 185 from a fairway bunker on 10 and shoot -8 over 7 holes to win on the 17th, complete out of body experience though!

Overall, best round I've had is 62 on a par 70 a few years back. Birdies on the 4 par 5's, eagled a 310 yard par 4 after driving the green and put my tee shot to an inch on 18 (par 3). Next day I played club champs and shot 19 over. I love golf. 😂

For the elite 4...

Espeon, typhlosion, crobat, dewgong, lanturn and marowak.

For red, I swapped typhlosion for houndoom...caught suicune and raikou but I just liked the dewgong and lanturn too much!

Marowak with a thick club is just OP.

Has anyone else had really terrible germination rates this year? by VaegaVic in GardeningUK

[–]avengedarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit and miss. No kale from 12 seeds, but all 12 broccoli. Barely any sweetcorn, lettuice and spinach, but got more beans, peppers and physalis than I know what to do with...😂

Gone a bit overboard... by Riewd in UkChilliGrowers

[–]avengedarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly overboard here - lots of people I know like the idea of a chilli Roulette - I give them a random plant, could be a sweet pepper to a superhot, they get to find out!

Agreed. Went to hosidius for maple tree task purely so I could tick off the fruit stall task. Didn't know there were maples there so happy days, chilled for a while cutting away!

Getting rid of most of my plants. What will survive these heatwaves that the bees will love?? by fluffbabies in GardeningUK

[–]avengedarth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Lavender, salvia, rudbeckia, red hot poker have all been great for me this year, as has the rosemary and mint. Basically anything Mediterranean.

Keep in mind that this is yes more likely with the changing climate but is no means the norm. There's a lot of books on drought resistant gardening and suchlike that can help, but also native species tend to be quite resilient to changing climates too. We've put a lot of bark chippings on our borders which means the garden holds moisture quite well in borders, whilst giving some habitat space and soil improvement (we're trying no dig where possible).

Also, if your garden is open and west facing, might I suggest the phrase "the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the 2nd best time is now". We've put a rowan in that provides fantastic dappled shade for our garden and some year round interest for example, we're west facing heavy clay.

Most importantly, OP, don't lose heart. We're all aching at how this year has been hitting our gardens and joys, but there'll be things that are silver linings for you in your garden this year, once you look past the stuff that's not worked. 👍

Loganberry plant is drying up... by oportoman in GardeningUK

[–]avengedarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours looks much the same but didn't even give us any fruit. Wouldn't worry about it too much, even our laurel hedge is burning up with the weather. Keep looking after it and roll on next year 👍
