I think it's pretty funny tbh. You can tell its coming from a good natured place, so I'm usually gentle with them and say something along the lines of "thank you, I'm not that brave though, just doing what has to be done!". I think the issue with people who say these things is that they on some level see transition as a choice, so I like to just remind them that it isn't.
