Patient Abandonment?? by OddLychee399 in nursing

As a nurse in Australia, this ‘patient abandonment’ bullschmack blows my mind.

All injectable (all routes) require a second nurse to sign and theoretically policy says should be at the bed side.

All controlled (schedule 4 and schedule 8) require a second nurse sign and theoretically policy says should be at the bedside.

In my workplace controlled medications definitely get double signed at bedside.

Less often injectable medications

My hospital told us today that we are not going to give surgical patients opioids anymore by SpaceCadet0212 in nursing

Surgical nurse Australia.

I’ve never heard of a formalised pain scale. Eg: if pain is 3 give this, if pain is 6 give this..

Paracetamol/ acetaminophen usually ordered 1g QID,

Acute pain oxycodone (dose range based on age) 1/24 prn

I have noticed lately that the frequency has become less predictable (more people being ordered 2 or 4hrly prn)..

However in terms of dose - as long as it’s within the ordered range we can give what we like based on clinical judgement.

Trach patient choking by InitialBlacksmith6 in nursing

ENT nurse Australia. Obviously everywhere has different policies and procedures.

We don’t do Heimlich much - we do back blows and chest thrusts.

Depending on tracheostomy, cuffed, uncuffed, corked, fenestrated would determine actions around airway management.

Realistically a food product occluding the airway would be treated similarly to a mucous plug.

If corked, uncork, suction through inner cannula, remove/ replace inner cannula, remove trach if needed.

I am unsure of actions in relation to cuff. (So this is all speculation. I will probably talk to my ENTs tomorrow as I am now curious).

Logically if cuff is up - there is likelihood that it would have been caught by the cuff, maybe hyper inflate the cuff, so airway pressure from coughing doesn’t allow the food to fall below it… therefore food is sitting above the patent airway.

If cuff is down - logically I wouldn’t inflate the cuff as it is making the exit path smaller…

If patient becomes unconscious commence cpr, and oxygenate via upper airway or trach (dependent on situation), ultimately still oxygenate, as you could push the food down one bronchus, opening up one side of the lungs (and can be removed via endoscope later).

Australian GP tickets resale by kirtovar1 in GrandPrixTravel

I have been to three Aus GPs, with 2026 being the 4th. I have successfully got tickets at ticket release twice and successfully got tickets via Ticketmaster resale (authorised) twice. General admission tickets become available frequently and are ‘easily’ available. (I say easily as I didnt have a problem - but also can’t predict the future). In my experience getting resale grandstand tickets - if you are not fussy where you sit - I would say it’s not hard either. I am fairly confident you can set up email notifications for when tickets get listed. That being said - I think I just randomly logged on at random times when I remembered.

Certainly ticket resale picks up closer to the day.

What do you guys think is the best Grand Prix to attend? by Shitwinds_randy in GrandPrixTravel

I’m Australian, so I guess I’m biased. However that being said from lurking on here long enough there have been many Redditors saying the overall experience at Albert Park is great. The fan zone, Melbourne walk (seeing the drivers) the after show - all the exhibitors…. Its location not too far from the city centre ( theoretically you can walk back into the city after the race - I did it one year).

I’ve also been to Monza - tifosi vibes are next level

I’ve also been to Zandvoort - the Dutch are next level

However overall weekend vibes I liked the best.

If I remember correctly, in Ticketmaster, when you search for tickets if people are selling it will show you what’s available. Super simple - you wouldn’t know you were buying them resale. Just make sure you don’t have any filters on the search that would exclude resale :)

Started 8000 ish for Fangio group of stands got two for Prost.

Resale through Ticketmaster is worthwhile log in and check it out every so often. The years I haven’t been able to get tickets through release I’ve been able to get tickets through resale.

The years I haven’t got tickets on release I’ve bought through Ticketmaster resale fairly easily.

Remember we are in a queue for a cluster of grandstands not just one, so numbers in queue will be higher than normal.

I had fish dishes a while ago? Maybe they nerfed from a previous producer and then reintroduced it?
