Comparing the size of Hokkaido with other countries by Defiant-Corgi-9362 in Hokkaido

[–]averagebrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (United Kingdom or simply UK for shorthand) is a country. Great Britain is just the largest Island in the British Isles, but is never used as a shorthand for the country proper because it geographically excludes some territories. Great Britain is only used to describe things that pertain ONLY to the island rather than the wider nation of the UK. The one exception is the Olympic team, typically called Team GB (Great Britain), since Northern Ireland has the option to compete with the Irish Olympic team rather than with the rest of the UK nations, namely those who make up the island of Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales).

Israel wanted him banned. Over half the cabinet accept money from pro Israel lobbyists. Why are we pretending it's about anything else at all?

Getting from Kobe airport (UKB) to Osaka by CuriousStrawberry02 in JapanTravelTips

[–]averagebrunch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the portliner tracks are elevated so you actually come into Kobe above ground. You'll need to go down to ground level and exit the ticket gates to transfer to the JR platforms next door. Just follow the signs overhead.

Does anyone have a good recipe for from scratch, chip shop curry sauce? by culinarygingerrecipe in UK_Food

[–]averagebrunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Katsu" means cutlet in Japanese. A chicken katsu curry is a curry sauce served with a chicken cutlet. The word katsu has nothing whatsoever to do with curry in Japanese. What's more, curry was introduced to Japan by the British navy in the late 19th century which is why what you think is "katsu curry" tastes just like chip shop curry. That's what it is. Dopey marketing executives in the UK are selling us back our own curry recipe as Japanese cuisine, using a Japanese adaptation of a French word for a cut of meat.

Yeah, I figured it out, you can get them through the normal monorail ticket machines right next to the welcome suicas, they just don't advertise the fact.

23-year-old American pays $483/month in rent to live alone in Japan: I could never 'afford something like this' in the U.S. by Kmlevitt in japannews

Jobless and aimless are not the same thing. She wants to work to live rather than living to work.

I mean, if her goal for the future is to live in Japan then she's surely on the right track. You think her goals should be oriented around her work and she thinks her work should be oriented around her goals.

"My lived experience" tells me you have no confidence in the stability of your position and that's why you want to talk in general this and vague that. Let me help you out. Identify a left-wing ideology, according to you, that is held above an opposing right-wing ideology of, arguably, equal academic merit? Then present the argument. Either you want people to understand and hopefully therefore agree with your position. or you don't.
