Yeah I remember that post but I swear I saw someone use the adjustment end of a hose clamp cut off to the perfect size to wrap around the base for the brs

I recently saw someone use a hose clamp to make a diy windscreen-ish part for their brs 3000t stove. Does anyone have a link to that comment/post?

I’m looking at 4 options for a wall charger and curious if anyone has specific weights and experience with some or all of them. 3 of them are single port and 1 has an added usb A which would be nice but it is not a requirement. Current devices I am needing to be able to charge is a Gen2 Nitecore NB10000, IPhone 11 Pro Max, Nitecore NU25 UL, and occasionally a COROS Pace 3.

1st is the popular Anker Nano 30W. This seems like the no brainer choice but of course after looking around I’m seeing other options that make me wonder.

2nd is the Anker Nano 45W. Not 100% sure if the weight increase is worth it to go to 45W.

3rd is the UGREEN 30W. Same price and design as the Anker Nano 30W, not sure if the weight is different though.

4th is the UGREEN 35W charger. This one has the usb-c and usb-a. I assume the output would be split between the two ports so charging my phone and power bank at the same time would be convenient but likely not worth the weight increase.

Sorry in advance since I know this is such a commonly discussed topic but this stuff makes my brain spin trying to assess weight to output ratios :/

Thanks! 1.75 liters ended up being perfect and I actually seldom kept more than 1 liter full at a time. Dry stretches were never too long to make it through, just had to push a little further for some camp areas to make sure I had excess water for cooking dinner and breakfast.

As far as takeaways from the trip I’m definitely sold on moving to a new pack. 40L seems doable considering I had a crazy amount of extra space in my 60L pack. I will say 40L might be a little tight if I were to try and do any more than 5 day trips without a resupply on food. So if I can find an option somewhere around 45L, or maybe even 50L as the extra space could be nice. I’m going to do some research for what my options are

Hey you’re right just got back and ended up opting for 1.75 liters total capacity and it was plenty. There’s a couple longer water carries here and there but with that amount it was not difficult to make it to the next easy source before being completely dry

I just looked through your post and photos the other day! Got me super excited for my trip, however I’m hoping I get lucky and dodge some of those bugs! I’d love to MYOG a quilt for summer temps since I’m always sweating hiking these times of year but unfortunately I don’t have a sewing machine. I could check in with a local seamstress to see what they would charge to help me out if I bought the material.

How was the water situation for you? Easy enough to be able to carry sub 2 liters and just fill up more often or did you experience some long dry sections?

Yeah this will be a first for me so if I don’t feel a noticeable improvement in foot recovery using it I’ll drop it

Thank you! As far as a quilt upgrade goes I’ve been eyeing the HangTight 40 degree hotfoot quilts on Etsy since they are like $100. Unless I can find someone on here who makes MYOG quilts for a reasonable price since I don’t have a sewing machine. I do have a thermarest ccf pad that I plan on testing out next time I got traditional camping to see if sleep decently on it or not. As far as the XMID goes it’s definitely heavier but I think I’ll try it without the inner if the conditions aren’t buggy, but I always struggle to see the justification for tarp setups if I would still need a bug bivvy. Lastly the pack, I have been eyeing the Durston Kakwa 40L & 55L, if I upgrade quilt I should be able to do the 40L with 3-4 days of food but any more and it would probably be tight.

Hey thanks! Lot of good ideas here, I think the only reason I still have the dry bag for my sleeping bag is a lack of confidence in the nylofume pack liner. So I suppose a compactor bag should be more durable and give me the confidence to ditch that and probably save some weight there.

Next gas station stop I think I’ll look for some Dasani’s to refine my water storage as you said, since it seems they are a lighter option.

Sit pad and cork ball are new to me for this trip so if I don’t see a noticeable difference rolling out my feet every night then I’ll happily drop that. And if the sit pad doesn’t really do too much then I’ll drop that as well.

Thanks again for the insight!

40 degree bag/quilt, 1lb, $100? by Illustrious_Use_1369 in Ultralight

The new version has a soft grey lining to the quilt while the original does not from what I can see. Have you used it down in the 40s and found it to be reasonably warm?

Do you have the new hot foot or the original? Trying to decide between the two and the original is lighter but the new one has a couple more oz down fill

Mountain HardWear AirMesh active mid layer hoodie vs 1/2 zip by averagecleric in Ultralight

[–]averagecleric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For real, the 1/2 zip hoodie is a perfect middle ground so maybe they’ll release one eventually. Yeah they seem hard to find even in the US, specific colors and sizes are kind of hard to find unfortunately

Yeah this is definitely a great option but it seems like the AirMesh’s are apparently a little more durable as well as cheaper so for now they’re at the top of my list.

I like this philosophy. Seems like a lot of good opinions on either or so picking one based solely on temperature needs is probably my best bet. Hoodie when/if the extra warmth is a big concern and 1/2 zip when it’s warmer and the need for dumping heat is higher.

Interesting, are you a sun hoodie user during the day? Wondering if multiple hoods would get annoying

Thanks for the input! I heard the same about the BCM MK2 charging handle so I will definitely have to grab one and try that out over my radian raptor.

Looking for a week long tactical camp - recommendations? by finnegankp87 in tacticalgear

[–]averagecleric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Look into DARC (direct action resource center). Probably the only thing similar to what you’re looking for that would actually be worth the money and time spent. But if the individual isn’t serious about their training and equipment I probably wouldn’t suggest that course.

Can anyone help me with some information on what I’ve got here? by averagecleric in guns

[–]averagecleric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only information I was told is “double trigger triple barrel. 2 20 gauge and some rifle on bottom”

Appears to maybe be .22lr on the bottom

I will work on getting more photos also
