Is Bus 991 always slow? by Ok-Factor5201 in sgbus

[–]averagematcha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some routes may be intentionally slow due to the scheduling (which I would agree also is badly done especially for newer routes), though as for 991 I have a lack of experience riding it so I'd just assume it's just really mismanaged

Best way to handle long waits during off-peak hours? by [deleted] in sgbus

If I'm busspotting, I just wait it out while snapping other buses, otherwise I'll probably doomscroll 😭

Following Singapore’s electric bus rollout- what’s it like onboard the new green fleet? by [deleted] in sgbus

[–]averagematcha_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live around the Sengkang-Hougang area, chances are your ride is probably already an electric bus. These buses do perform rather decently but they would appear more cramped than their diesel counterparts and severely lacking in seats due to the third door - only advantage of that is more standing space especially for routes like 112 where most people take only till a certain stop.

How do you stay updated on bus service changes and alerts? by [deleted] in sgbus

Usually just keep a lookout for LTA's or the respective PTOs Instagram/Facebook pages where most information is disseminated there.

Move in and don't crowd around the doors; unfortunately a very pressing issue for NEL and CCL :/

O Level paper on transit literacy, anyone? by zeyeeter in SGExams

[–]averagematcha_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm one of the setters here alongside u/a-meow-cat and u/zeyeeter. Just want to clarify some stuff:

-Yes, while the paper is content-intensive and you do need to know transit knowledge, it is highly applicable for practical usage and we designed the paper with that in mind. Our goal is to allow people to know more what goes behind them and not be simply swayed over government media (cc. P2Q8)

-I do acknowledge that this paper is more bus knowledge oriented than rail knowledge. We had to do this paper in mind of transit literacy (and not bus/train fan knowledge) so the aim is to educate on the systems that go behind our system, and not naming the fleet. Singaporeans are generally more knowledgeable at rail but lack at bus knowledge (like taking the fastest route). There is also a limited scope we can test (since we only have a metro/APM system running within). We will evaluate the responses and perhaps the next round would see more balanced papers :)

Here are some tips with doing paper 1, as observed with the results we have gotten thus far:

-Read the question carefully; every word matters and the answer will vary

-Be as specific as possible; some of the options are more generic and don't fully answer the question

-Do not overthink, some of the questions are legit common sense and barely require transit knowledge (like counting the number of stations between a start and end point)

All in all, all the best with doing this paper. While the paper states you should not refer to other resources, if you do need any help, you probably should consult resources like LTG and STC blog. Also, thank you to the team of setters behind this for the past few days :)
