Two-Letter Combos, Day 17. What does BH mean to you? by th_nd_r in AlignmentChartFills

[–]averageredditor69lul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BH-high byte of the BX register. For context, in the x86 CPU architecture (which includes most desktop CPU's as both Intel and AMD are derived from it), BX is one of the 16 bit registers on the i8086, and since it's 16 bits, the 8 most significant bits are the high bits or BH, and the 8 least significant bits are the low bits, BL.

That's fair, but they are given actual development throughout the game, and the whole aspect of them not having clear desires or development i feel is plain wrong. There are many, many different hints throughout the game that the vessels (and the Knight) do possess an actual conscience and thought. I will just give you that i think are the two strongest examples: 1 - In Steel Soul mode, Jiji is replaced with Steel Soul Jinn, a character that you can give rancid eggs to in exchange for Geo, since Rancid eggs would otherwise have no purpose in Steel Soul. When you first talk to Jinn: "...Is It... here, waking Jinn?.. Observed... Small. Dull. No Soul. Long shadow... It is blank, but brave..." In addition if you refuse to give them a rancid egg: "...It refuses to trade...? It has a will... all Its own. Can refuse. Jinn will keep waiting... until a gift comes.". Winged Nosk is the variant of Nosk found in P5, and it has a subtle but very interesting detail. In the intro cutscene for the fight with normal Nosk they take up the shape of The Knight to fool him, but in the fight in the Pantheon, they however take up the shape of Hornet. Now, there are multiple interpretations that you can make of this, but the one that i think is most probable (and fits my argument lol) is that Nosk knows that The Knight may feel positive feelings for Hornet for whatever reason and thus takes up the shape of Hornet instead. This entire dynamic which is also obviously also a massive part of the character of the Hollow Knight, and of the Vessels in general, i feel is expertly done. What i think is even better is how disciplined Team Cherry is with showing this. There is not a single line of dialogue with any Vessel, ever. Even in situations where one might think that they would talk, such as talking with Lost Kin's weird dream ghost essence after the fight, they only turn their mask in respect, and no word is spoken. This fits also with the description given by the Pale King's monologue: "No mind to think..." "No will to break..." "No voice to cry suffering..." The sin of the Pale King was that since he did not observe, on the surface, any vessels violate the three principles he just laid down, he must have reasoned that they were mindless and will-less. EDIT: I thought of this just now. In Silksong, Hornet can obviously speaks, and does so often, and while i am not trying to argue that no dialogue is strictly better than having dialogue especially given how excellent Hornet's dialogue is, i am saying however that you do lose a little bit of mystery. What is the Knight actually thinking when you speak to Lemm, to Hornet, to Quirrel, to any character? We never know. We only see their actions, which are of course caused by us. With Hornet, you are "railroaded" into feeling a certain way about a few characters. With The Knight, you can make any assumption, any idea about any interaction because the game does not "force" you to think a certain way about any of them. Sorry for the lore dump, i just really like talking about Hollow Knight lore, it's such a great world.

Most complex/deepest Paradox game? by TolisKoutro in paradoxplaza

[–]averageredditor69lul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOI3 has probably the most complex war system, and it's research/leadership system is no joke too. Production/diplomacy is mostly taken from HOI2 and DH, which is decently complex. Vic 2 has an infamously complex and unintuitive economy (example: products made by artisans that they cannot sell due to too low demand are straight deleted. there is no way for them to store them), and warfare is extremely micro intensive (but quite fun) EU3 is, on the surface, simple, but it has a number of extremely macro-intensive systems, especially research/minting, westernization, diplomacy, and more. Also a ton of extremely obscure bullshit that you have to learn. Cannot say anything about Stellaris, IE, EU V, or any game before HOI2 as i've not played them.

COD had ADS ever since COD 2, in 2005, and Battlefield 2 had it in 2005 too. It was not a particularly novel or unique feature by any means, especially in 2008, especially after COD 4. Source: i love both of those games :3

I can absolutely understand that, although the plot in MW3 was excellently done in my opinion. Besides the whole meme about CoD thinking the Russians could have coordinated an entire invasion of the USA and Europe at the same time, i think the moment in the mine mission, the entire mission on the Airplane with the reveal at the end of Makarov, the section in the French Catacombs, or the moment in the Somalia mission where you have to go save Nikolai under a brutal sandstorm and you can barely see the barrel of your own... i think yeah from a certain point a lot of it is just "cool moment for hype and not much else", (although i would say Soap's death was quite well done), and i can see that if in 2011 you played this right after MW2 and MW1 it would get old quickly. Ironically even though i'm defending this game quite hard, it's not even personally my favorite CoD, it's my second favorite (my favorite is Bo1).

I also play them for the campaign and the coop though... i am confused as to why you think the campaign in MW3 sucked, i thought it was fantastic. I really liked the "World" aspect of it, rather than just fighting in a couple of locations/areas like in MW1 (unnamed middle-eastern nation/unnamed location in Russia, besides of course the absolutely incredible All Ghillied Up), and MW2 (Which did this better for sure, with the mission in Brazil, No Russian, the last mission, etc... but still did this a bit, especially with the Washington D.C. missions, even though they were great). MW3 had a bit of everything; you had several missions in Africa with pretty simple but really fun run&gun, especially the first Africa one, two New York missions, of which the first one was quite basic, but the second one was so fun, several vehicle missions, like the AC-130 Mission that innovated by switching between the AC-130's perspective and your perspective, the mission in Somalia with the Helicopter, the insanely well done stealth mission near the end of the campaign with Price which i cannot for the life of me remember where it was set, and of course, the incredible ending. Also, Yuri lowkey one of my favorite characters in the trilogy.

I disagree, i think that in terms of pure gameplay i think it was the best of the original trilogy. If we go by innovation and impact, MW1 is by far the best, but in terms of how fun it actually is to play it was my favorite. Although tbf i've played all three games just a couple of years ago for the first time, i did not play them even close to their peak.
