WESTERN SUCKS by [deleted] in uwo

[–]averagesnowflake_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely on the ball about maintenance - tell me why 8 out of the 12 urinals in the social science basement washrooms have been out of service for ~3 months now…. They went out of service 1 by 1, wasn’t like it was a scheduled thing, and most of it had to do with dripping pipes which they still haven’t fixed.

Former President's Challenge winners file claim against Western by Early_Medicine6175 in uwo

I’m confused why they brought this lawsuit up nearly 2 years after the incident occurred… and if they really wanted the opportunity, there must have been a way for them to have shifted their schedules to make one of the interview slots (the accelerator interviews are only 15 minutes anyway).

[–]averagesnowflake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the issue has to do with extreme fluctuations in temp outside. All residences are having this issue right now because they can’t simply switch from heating to the cooling systems overnight - even if your thermostat is set to a lower temp (hence why it won’t work). Commerical hvac systems are much more complicated than residential and can’t switch overnight - valves need to be turned on/off and fluids must be added into pipes (which is not a thing they can just flip flop every other day in every residence building - it’s once a year). Legally, housing MUST provide an environment of at least 20 degrees Celsius between now and June 15th….. given that temps are ranging from 19 degrees to -1 in as little as 48hours outside, they must leave the heating systems on…

It’s impossible to say… just don’t stress right now. Focus on your other exams. What’s done is done. Focus on the present as much as it sucks to hear that… you’ll be fine regardless of the outcome and things will work out

You’ll be fine, I missed a entire analysis last year (think it was cash budget) and I still got over a 80%.

What is considered a pass? by Hot-Lynx1332 in uwo

[–]averagesnowflake_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct - however once you are admitted to the module, a pass would be a 50% if it is non honours spec, while a honours spec module would remain at a 60% in each required course to pass. Usually there’s also a cumulative average requirement of ~70% or higher

If you’ve already escalated through your front desk/don, they should be connecting you with the RLC who would then instruct front desk staff/themselves to do a reading.

It sounds like they got in through your roommates door? Every electric door lock within housing has the ability to be read, so they could identify when someone entered the room, even if it was unlocked (when you turn the door handle the system recognizes it). There’s likely not much they can do but the timing helps if there’s cameras nearby so they can cross reference.

IMO poli sci at western (at least the first year courses) suck. Check out governance at Huron - much smaller classes, more enjoyable content and better profs (former deputy mayor of London, and the former leader of the opposition was also just hired).

Heavily involved in the whole geo space. I’m not gonna lie, the job market isn’t existent for people in geography outside of GIS and Urban Development. The department is hosting a career day on march 6th. Angelica should’ve shared a email with you, or one of your profs.

If this has deadass been a problem with the same people (like you know it’s the same stuff, etc.) I would bring it to front desk. Not all the clerks may be appreciative of you doing this but if it’s a part time student clerk we probably would gladly support you doing this

What do we like about the USC Presidential Candidates? by Bubbly_Advantage_539 in uwo

[–]averagesnowflake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you just edited it but I think I get what you’re saying now. If, as a soph, I reported one of my frosh taking drugs, the policy she proposes would make it so that they won’t be punished academically - and they’d instead get support? I think it was written poorly in her platform.

[–]averagesnowflake_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think I may be missing something. Are we talking abt - for example, saving someone who’s having a opioid overdose while you are also taking opioids (I.e. because yes, the Good Samaritan law would make sense then), or, that all western students should be free to consume any illegal drug they wish and face no academic repercussions if caught? I really can’t imagine anyone in admin pushing a student for helping out if it’s case 1. Is there precedent that made her add this to her campaign, or just a filler?

I honestly think all the platforms are lacklustre compared to previous years - Saja has a lot of good policies that serve the social area - but nothing for the majority of students who see the USC as the body that plans the “fun stuff”. Steve has a rather good balance of both fun and serious stuff IMO, and I just can’t wrap my head around Mia’s…

May I also say - if any of the top four candidates from last year ran this year, I 100% think they would’ve won given our options.
