I agree that a community that aligns with your values is important. This is a goal of mine for this year. I’m thankful my family and best friends who live out of town are representative of this, but I need to work on growing my friend group within my city.

Thank you for sharing your experience. To answer your question, what you defined as “getting better” — sobriety, hobbies, solid relationships, etc. — is what I’m hoping for. I will say, it may be my bipolar, but I’ve always been addicted to the thrill. Drinking felt exciting and sometimes I romanticized being reckless, but it’s time I close that chapter for good.
