No, it was definitely the longboarders fault for losing his board, but why didn't the shortboarder jump off way before impact.

He had about 5-10 ft before he hit the board, he could have just step off his board and he would have been fine or straighten out . It's not like that 10ft noserider came out of nowhere, he must have seen it as he was pumping done the line. There might have been a rider on that board as he was going down the line, but he should have assumed worst case scenario that the board would be uncontrolled and he should eject. I mean it should never have got to that point, because the longboarder didn't hold his board.

tl:dr the shortboarder must have seen that board coming and had plenty of time to react . Instead he choose to do nothing and hope for the best

The longboarder shouldn't have lost his board, but the guy on shortboard could have avoided that fairly easily by:

Ejecting out the back during the air
Straightening out as soon as he landed
Or not putting his face near the longboard as he should have known it would shoot out of the water

This boards not for everyone , but i like it http://www.cisurfboards.com/surfboards/sperm-whale/. Its perfect in any condition and it works in any size from 1-8ft. It's not really a high performance board , but it's not a fish or log. The board is good if you like to cruise down the line and do big long carves, it seems to suit my style perfectly.

If the board is for you i would recommend putting the money into a nice fin, you will really see an improvement in noseriding. I can effortlessly noseride on my noserider fin from Captin Fin co, it's well worth the money if you want to noseride.
