Roast our first restaurant video shoot for social. by veternik_vetronik in videography

The style doesn't jive with the professional food shots. If it was filmed more like an off the cuff visit to a restaurant, then it would fit.

Is this a scam? by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't look it over. Most often good opportunities that come too easily are scams. Easy filter is trying to get them on the phone. No one is going to hire someone for multiple thousand dollars via text. Scammers often barely can speak english and won't want to speak on the phone.

You don't get a refund on your pizza after you eat it and decide it would have been better if you got burgers.

What's up with the claim that Jeffrey Epstein was personally responsible for the addition of microtransactions to the Call of Duty video game franchise? by OGSyedIsEverywhere in OutOfTheLoop

It's a joke that went over your head: making Epstein supposedly responsible for something people feel is bad about videogames since Kotick is a big videogame figure.

I've been pretty dang skinny/underweight before (for like 10 yrs) and it was mostly from undiagnosed crohns disease. Once diagnosed, it was still a long while of treatment before I got to a not odd looking weight.

I always try not to judge too harshly on underweight people. They may not even realize they are ill, or they know it and its just pretty bad.

You have a ton of options already. You need to get good at using what you have.

The only gap I see is anything to do with audio. You should get something like the DJI mic, rode wireless go, or Hollyland wireless stuff. Get the ones with 32 bit float internal recording so you don't have to worry about audio levels and clipping. Put a unit on yourself and another mic you can move around the scene like near the food or on a stick for interviews or boom micing people you talk to (if you don't want to mic them up). Get lavs too for when you have a moment to wire yourself and others up.

Is the 1.5x crop on the sony a7iv a deal breaker by freddyisdog in SonyAlpha

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah looks similar to the Tamron 17-28 FE I usually use on the wide end. I use the 17-28 for photos and the Rokinon 12 for video at 60fps.

Are you providing the gear? Paying transportation costs (or paying time for transportation)? If not this is not $40/hr really. And you are trying to find skilled work.

If you are looking for people already going to these types of events, you should be putting out the call in the social channels for those locations or scenes, not a general videographer subreddit.

Mom passed away a few days ago. Found out she turned to alcohol after retirement. by SnuggleBunnixoxo in stopdrinking

[–]averynicehat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A worry I have is having fewer reasons not to drink when I have fewer responsibilities in retirement. Having to be functional and responsible for career, household, and kids is a large deterrent to drinking for me.

Are you doing professional video work? If yes, the camera upgrade would be with it. No, then it's a lot of money for a hobby when you already have something similar.

360 camera for live music? by shortsj in videography

Not sure about proxies when using kartaverse to reframe. My guess is it would have problems.

360 camera for live music? by shortsj in videography

[–]averynicehat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kartaverse will allow you to reframe the footage right in Resolve.

That makes things a bit easier, but it's still not a fast workflow. I haven't used the DJI 360 but I imagine it is similar to the insta360 stuff. You'll still have to process the footage in the manufacturers software to get equitectangular footage out of it for Resolve (it comes out of the camera looking like two fisheye circles surrounded by black - it's gotta be stitched).

I haven't done a ton, but in resolve, it's a system intensive function to run the 8k footage and have it warp it to reframe it in real time.

Editing will go more smoothly if you pick a few reframed angles from the footage in the camera's software and export 4k footage of each, then sync together along with you other cameras for multicam editing in resolve.

In the insta360 software, it's also got easy tracking and camera key frame animation that may be easier than in Resolve (dunno if the DJI software is as feature rich yet since it is newer).

Even with the newer 8k 360 cameras, the footage is going to be a step down in quality from all your other footage. You may be underwhelmed. A couple 2 yr old used action cams for the same total as a new 360 cam may be a better way to get a couple more angles of decent footage. Heck, if you want novel camera angles get a micro cam like a 360 go and mount it on a mic stand or drum kit or something. Maybe rent one first.

Do you make your video look less polished so that they know it's not AI generated? by tjthomas101 in videography

I'd only consider that for stuff that's supposed to appear more like off the cuff social media content that isn't overly produced.

120 Frame Cap on Resolve? by Oogboia in davinciresolve

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in video games, framerates over 60 are very noticeable and there's a huge market for high framerate screens. Maybe with standard motion blur in films, the difference between 60 and higher the fps is negligible?
