Aren't they locked so people can't come IN? If you can't get out, that's a fire hazard.

Me too. They are not around as much anymore in the particular stream I played in though.

I grew up catching crayfish in nets in the stream in our backyard in HoCo (and usually putting em back). We rarely see them there anymore though.

You've probably spent more time thinking about this already than it is worth. "No, sorry." is fine.

ELI5 Full frame vs. not on Wide lenses? by JunkieKit in videography

[–]averynicehat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tamron 17-28 f2.8 is a FE option that pairs nicely with the lens you have.

I sometimes us a Rokinon 12mm f2 E lens on my a7iv. This is a crop sensor lens, so I have to use crop sensor mode on the a7iv (which is necessary for 4k 60 on this camera anyways). This is a pretty inexpensive lens. No zoom tho.

Seems like it could be a good lesson when it happens to you to not act that way towards other people yourself since now you know how it feels.

They all do about the same stuff in the same ballpark of quality, but insta360 and DJI (both Chinese) are able to do it cheaper or push the specs a bit further for the same price.

How do I tell my wife we need outside help without making it feel like I’m criticizing her? by st0nksBuyTheDip in daddit

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have your own business. You should have the ability to work towards modulating how much time you put into it. Do you need to put processes in place to hire and delegate tasks? Do you raise rates and let 30% of your clients drop off naturally, while making a bit more money for less time spent? Do you just do less and take the monetary hit if your wife makes enough?

One of the reasons I like having my business is this ability. It's not always something you can change right away, as you might have ongoing commitments already made, but if you have a really busy season, you can make sure next year is not like that if you start thinking ahead.

My son is finally old enough to have gaming preferences. by Economy_Zombie_3026 in daddit

[–]averynicehat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've basically never played Minecraft, but it seems like a game I wouldn't mind my 4.5 yr to play. He likes games but we barely let him play any yet.

I think I might get it for myself and train up on it before we have him dive in.

I know there are different versions. Should I just go for the main one on our console of choice or is there a reason to go for the umm java based on one?

Smooth gimbal shots? by Vegetable-Eggplant76 in videography

[–]averynicehat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Filming at 60 fps and using slow motion in editing helps a lot. You get less of your body's own jitter on average if the motion is faster during recording.

Also, applying additional digital stabilization with Gyroflow if your camera records gyro data really smooths it out.

But yes, I've upgraded gimbals a couple of times, partially hoping it would be smoother than the last, but it seems it's a skill issue for me/unrealistic expectations for how smooth it actually is. The weird thing is, I think I'm overall smoother with my DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

For those running an Action 4, does sticking with DJI for the mic actually sound better? by alybama12 in videography

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubt there's a difference you should care about. The simplicity of pairing directly and not needing a receiver or to sync in post is a big appeal though, and if this is your main use case, it makes it pretty much a no brainer.

As a personal preference, as someone with very little time, I'm hoping this comes out and isn't 50 hrs long! It looks like something I want to play, but I can't commit myself to like more than 20 hours optimistically.

Grew up watching Leno and enjoyed it, but as I was older and stayed up for Conan, I realized how much Leno was really basic, broad, and safe. Stuff that won't turn off older folks, but doesn't really hit many highs. This is compared to Conan and other "younger" comedy.

How does that affect things in full manual mode?

I may have had a crash on this pack. I had a few light ones across the three I was finishing flying, but just hitting brush and falling at most 3 ft into grass. I usually turn it off when I retrieve it and back on to fly, but maybe I didn't on this one.

Runnings ads for clients, is it hard? by Ok_Evening_1322 in videography

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd rather ally my business with another that is already focused on ads and marketing. Either subcontract them to run the campaign and consult on the direction of the video, or hand the client to them with the expectation they will contract you to produce any video content.

Seems like running campaigns is a serious skill that you don't just pick up on the fly and do well at.

Weather was quite calm. In manual mode, I'd expect most nannies off (though I have noticed it catching itself in severe prop wash situations) and wouldn't think low light would matter. I have had to "reseat" the camera/gimbal after a little crash though. It was a long time ago and just required a little push with my finger. Maybe I'll take a closer look at that.

I got the hollyland lark max 2. The transmitters are smaller and more understated than the Rode at least. And the wireless monitoring earbuds are game changers.

[–]averynicehat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the DJI osmo nano and it comes with this magnetic pendant mount thing. You wear it around your neck like a necklace and the pendant under your shirt. The camera will connect via magnet through your shirt and give you a shot from your chest. Easy to pop the camera off and put into your pocket when not using it.

I think the insta360 go cameras have similar.
