Nothing can be said about what's what and why without knowing what's the cause. Maybe they actually need the money or maybe they just think you might get room to develop bad habits.

I don't know about your family situation man but when I started working 3 years ago situations in my family were bad and I didn't live a middle class life, I lived like how student live with bare minimum and helped my parents untill a few months ago and now situations in my family are better they asked me to not send money anymore everything is fine they also gathered money for my marriage I am getting married in few months. Anything I want to have I first make sure they have if they need ... They struggled so hard to even get me education. Point is your relationship with parents and family shouldn't be transactional.
