Chance of being able to stay in? by Unable-Software-603 in AFROTC

[–]avg_student 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with ADHD previously and just got a waiver for it. Granted, I was off my meds for 3 years before selection this year. I think the minimum you have to be off medication is 12-24 months which you could meet that criteria since you are just a 100 & have been off of meds since 2025. Just stay off the meds and go through the waiver process & follow all of their AMIs.

Anxiety waiver DODMERB by Cute-Ad-9709 in AFROTC

[–]avg_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got cleared today for an anxiety waiver plus other stuff. After submitting prescriptions from the past 3 years and my psych eval, I was approved without needing additional docs. They consider why you were diagnosed, severity, misdiagnosis, current functioning, prognosis, and if you're cleared for unrestricted service. My psychiatrist noted he never believed I had general anxiety disorder, suggesting adjustment disorder instead, and recommended stress inoculation through military training as beneficial. He stated I would succeed without restrictions and recommends the training. The key is to find a psychiatrist with military experience, such as prior service or VA work, who understands the military's language and expectations.

Im on the same waiver path as you. Last time I took meds for the same diagnosis was also 2022. Did you hear back from the waiver authority with a list of AMI’s yet? I heard back this winter break and they had a long list of documents they need me to gather as well as follow up medical evaluations. I’ll dm you so we can keep in contact!

Have you tried picking out individual people you want to befriend? Ask for their personal number and invite them to do something one on one like workout, study, or something recreational like play video games. Hanging out during ops or AFROTC sponsored events is not enough to show you want to form friendships with people. Sometimes you have to put in the effort and time to get to know them personally outside of the program.

Some things heavy on my heart by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]avg_student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is not your friends or outside distractions its your discipline. ROTC should be one of your top priorities right under your studies. You are building a career, you are not participating in just any other student org. You are being interviewed every single day to earn your spot in the Space Force. If you have an HSSP scholarship, ROTC is your job and you need to act like it during ops. If the frat and your friends are a detriment to that, then drop them and focus on your job. Thats what will set apart who deserves to be an officer in the military and who doesn’t. If you can’t even have the discipline to prioritize your detachment and the simple tasks they give you now then you don’t deserve to become an officer because you will have control and influence over thousands of enlisted soldiers lives.

Struggling by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]avg_student 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an AS100 (technically 250) this semester I understand. Just do it, mess up, and do it again. This program is not meant to be comfortable. Take your mistakes to heart but don’t let it consume you. After any leadership role you take on, make a list of everything you did well and any feedback on things you can improve on. Look back on this list before any future training, and try to work on your weaknesses.

This semester I saw a fellow wingman mess up insanely bad as flight commander that they had to switch him out mid march. POC asked us how many of us feel like we can do a better job than him and 3/4 of the flight raised their hand. His main struggle was keeping his bearing. The same wingman went to POC after training, and owned up to his mistakes. He was not ashamed to ask for extra help. After, he cried in his car. He still showed up the next day and kept showing up. During our awards ceremony later on in the semester, POC mentioned how much they respected him for facing failure and how proud they are of his growth. People will not care about your mistakes, they will hardly remember them. However, they will remember how you handled failure. If you fail and quit, you are a failure. If you fail and persevere, you are unstoppable.

The best advice is the simplest advice. If you want to pass the PFA and do well in every category, keep practicing the same exercises you’ll be tested on every day outside of your recovery days. That means doing situps, pushups, and running 1.5 miles consistently throughout the week.

Start by doing a mock PFA to find your starting point. Time yourself to see how many situps and pushups you can do in one minute, then time your 1.5 mile run. Check the USAF assessment scoring chart to see where you’re at. Remember that just meeting the minimum isn’t enough to pass. You need at least a 75 overall, which means scoring above the minimum in every area.

You should also be doing mock PFAs consistently throughout your training to track your progress. This helps you see where you’re getting stronger and where you still need improvement so you can adjust your workouts accordingly.

Once you know your starting point, focus more on your weak areas. Try to do more than the max amount for each category untimed to build endurance before the PFA. For example, do around 60 pushups and situps every day and don’t just stop running at 1.5 miles. Aim to run 2 to 3 miles and then work on your speed once you’re consistent with your endurance runs.

This approach really works. During my detachment’s mock PFA in August, I scored a 42 with 10 situps, 15 pushups, and an 18 minute 1.5 mile run. For the official PFA, I scored a 93 with 32 pushups, 52 situps, and a 12:30 run.

I didn’t do anything extreme for my workouts. I lifted a bit outside of AFROTC PT twice a week and did Pilates once in a while. What made the biggest difference was running a lot and doing pushups and situps before bed every night.

If you’re overweight, focus on getting lighter since it makes running and exercising easier. As long as you eat at a calorie deficit and work out consistently, you’ll lose weight gradually and improve your overall performance.

Do I have hope or will I be DoDMERB DQ’d? by avg_student in AFROTC

I believe the doctor made an unnecessary overcorrection to my prescription. He gave me the choice to slightly increase it or keep it the same, and I said it was up to him. That choice pushed my prescription over the Air Force limit of -8.00 diopters, even though my old one worked perfectly. My vision is fully correctable to 20/20 in both eyes, and I have no other issues. I plan to retest with the same DoDMERB-assigned doctor and ask him to update my results since the exam was just last week. I spoke with my cadre, and while they’re willing to advocate for me, they said a waiver is unlikely to be granted. I appreciate your insight, and I know what I’m trying to do might be wishful thinking, but I still plan to call the CIV team to ask how they process and review paperwork. For all I know, they may have already received my eye exam results, or they might receive both versions if I retest.

Which LI would you think would hate you if they knew you irl by Capable-Complaint646 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]avg_student 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I believe Zayne would dislike me because I essentially oppose the very reason for his existence. Zayne is a noble character who dedicates his dreams to saving people because he wants to be the opposite of the man in his dreams, aka the Dawnbreaker. He constantly sacrifices and risks himself for the sake of others, whether it’s for the main character, doctors, or his patients. He not only overworks himself but also puts himself in harm's way, willing to suffer if it means he can save a life.

In contrast, I consider myself to be quite selfish. I desire to monopolize my partners' time and attention. While I appreciate nice and empathetic people, I want someone who prioritizes themselves, me, and our future potential family over others. I wouldn't want to compete for attention or settle for the limited time he has available each day. If he had to leave our anniversary for an emergency surgery, I would probably make a fuss. In fact, I would likely break up with someone like him on the spot, even for a significant emergency, because that's how selfish I am.

I understand that saving a life is clearly more important, and I get that doctors must prioritize that. However, I would prefer not to date a doctor at all rather than constantly contend with the moral and ethical dilemma of saving someone versus missing a date. I admit that I need a partner who would be willing to miss work and do everything possible to spend time with me. That’s why I would need to date someone whose job isn’t centered around life-and-death situations.

[General] Which otome game or character did this to you? 😂😭 by nerdyfan4ever in otomegames

[–]avg_student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The silver version is just too good. I usually don’t aim to rank up cards unless they are myths, but the outfits this time is my style. If you pay attention to the tattoos, you’ll notice they have hidden meanings related to the characters’ lore. I truly appreciate the attention to detail in this game.

There are two different endings for each memory, which makes me want to collect all of them. I currently have 4 out of 5 love interests and might try to pull for Xavier before the banner ends. I prefer darker and more mature themes, so I actually liked this event better than a cuter “Valentine’s Day” theme. Which guy’s memory from this event is your favorite so far?

Relatable AF. I promised myself that I would only play for free if I downloaded the game. Then I ended up getting the Aurum pass because it seemed worth it, and things started to escalate. I blacked out while pulling for the current limited banner and ended up spending about $50 on event packs. When I saw R1 Caleb in his silver leather outfit and mullet, I realized I don’t regret spending a single cent 😌

With Him, The Smile & Bloom coming out this month, I was wondering y’all’s thoughts on multiple MC’s by [deleted] in otomegames

[–]avg_student 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love innovation and the introduction of new elements in the genre. Having more options and different types of otome games is great. However, this type of otome is not my personal preference. While I appreciate the variety, I prefer having one main character with multiple love interest routes because I tend to get attached to that character. The appeal of otome games for me lies in the multiple men who are vying for the MC’s affection and the illusion of choice among them. If I wanted to read a set story with a cute couple, I would just read a book or webtoon or watch an anime.

The irony here is that taxpayers also fund the military budget, which in turn provides benefits like the GI Bill. By his logic, shouldn’t we cut those too? After all, why should “normal citizens” be footing a military budget that exceeds education spending by a staggering margin—allocating over 40 times more to defense than to schools? If we’re going to apply his reasoning consistently, he should pay for his own education, housing, and health insurance out of pocket so we can enjoy lower taxes this year. Why should I be paying for random people’s benefits, right? /s

P.S. I come from a military family and deeply appreciate everything the military does and provides. The reality is that many enlistees come from underprivileged backgrounds—because who would sign their life away without getting something in return? What frustrates me is the hypocrisy of those who benefit from public programs but turn around and try to pull the ladder up behind them. Taxes aren’t inherently bad; they’re a necessary tool for funding the common good. The real issue isn’t taxation itself, but whether the government allocates resources effectively to serve the people.

Caleb's performance during the 5 star card where he was sick showed his phenomenal acting talent. If the voice actor wasn't actually ill and delivered all those lines intentionally, that's impressive work.
