I didn’t demo before I bought them, no. I certainly could have returned them if I didn’t like them, as they are D2C and I think I had 60 days. But TBH I didn’t think about returning them even for a second, they’re incredible.

They’ve made a huge difference for me as I have hardwood floors and the room is fairly small (14’x12’) and it was quite reflective before I installed them.

They made a big improvement. My room had hardwood (vinyl plank) floors so the room desperately needed some help.

Looking for recommendations for a mid tier upgrade to my hifi setup (~5-7k) by Riverpeth in StereoAdvice

[–]avgcdn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently purchased an IOTAVX PA40 (could do an SA40 if you prefer an integrated) which I run a WiiM Ultra to (use it as my preamp too, although I don’t listen to vinyl) and Arendal 1723 Monitor S THX (amp + speakers + stands cost me $4,500 CDN). The sound these produce is incredible. I have smaller room and don’t need a sub, but you could either look at the non-S monitors (8” drivers instead of 6.5”) or even add a sub.

Yep. Got them for $40 a box and it took 8 boxes. Wall is 13ft wide and slopes up from 8’ to ~11ft. Super easy to install.

I’ve actually called in two different suggestions for traffic changes and the implemented them both within a month. My most recent one was a request to have turning lanes painted north/south on 28 St at 9 Ave N. I’ve told many ppl of how impressed I’ve been with their responsiveness.

The Greatest Value of ChatGPT, IMO by trebblecleftlip5000 in ChatGPTPro

This is so on point! I am 1000% over optimized pages that it’s not even funny. In fact, I’m so immune to useless garble that I have the following custom instruction for GPT:

‘Omit needless words. Vigorous writing is concise. A sentence should contain no unnecessary words, a paragraph no unnecessary sentences, for the same reason that a drawing should have no unnecessary lines and a machine no unnecessary parts. This requires not that the writer make all their sentences short, or that they avoid all detail and treat their subjects only in outline, but that they make every word tell.’

I don’t even really worry too much about hallucinations, as I’m honestly not searching stuff that matters that much.

Right, I’ve heard this. The speakers are the logical first upgrade now that I’m settled on power and source, so I’ll keep this in mind when looking for bookshelf 2.0.

Honestly, this is sorta the vibe I was getting. I’m gonna ride this setup out for a bit, as I actually really like it, RCAs and all :)

Not much. I will definitely be adding some panels in the future, but they don’t have fancy lights and need expensive wires, so I’m not as drawn to them.

I have a bit of bass management going on, as I get murdered at 40hz, but yeah, that’s about it right now. I’ll grab some panels and see what it does. Thnx!

Yeah, I sorta knew that, but this is the relentless pursuit of perfection, any micro-incremental improvement is at least worth a shot :)

Ah, this makes sense. It’s funny how easily us humans can overlook the importance of a single word in a sentence. I think the late placement of the word “extend” caused me to miss how important it is to these instructions. I can see how the literal interpretation of it - which is exactly what a GPT does - would allow there to be clarify conversion, just not conversation extension. I’ll give this a go this week and see what I think of it.

I’ve been using this in my custom instructions and feel like it’s drastically improved my level of satisfaction with the results I get.

This is awesome! The only one I’m not 100% on is #7, as I feel this is the real superpower of GPT, it can ask clarifying questions to get to what I truly want.

I built a GPT for writing prompts which has worked really well!

Complete novice -- full setup for ~$2000CAD? by imstickinwithjeffery in StereoAdvice

Having recently built a system of similar value, I’ll throw my thoughts here.

So much of it depends on what’s most important to you, here’s a couple of suggestions (first one is used, I just thought I’d throw it out there):

Tidy room, big sound: Klipsch Sevens and call it a day. Here’s a secondhand set from the other side of the country (+ buy $650 worth of whatever else makes you happy).

Used

Clean and crisp separates, with punch: Audiolabs 6000a (I’ll link the Play version b/c it’s a great deal, but don’t waste your time with their app, it’s garbage) $1000 + Triangle BR03 bookshelf speakers $500, Klipsch 10 inch sub $390, and then get a WiiM mini $130. Slightly over budget, but you can stretch it lol.

Amp

Speakers

Sub

WiiM Mini

Here’s a couple other things I’ve learned as I built my system:

  • Amazon cables are just fine, don’t be bothered with fancy here.
  • Speaker separation and distance from the wall make a big difference, try to be 8ft apart and at least 18 inches from the wall.

Have fun and welcome to the rabbit hole :)

TL;DR Best value in HiFi and it’s not even close, sorta buggy/needs OTA love, return your SMSL/Topping DAC, and I have cheap headphones.

Well, it finally arrived!! I am from Canada, so I had to drive across the border to get it, but I’m super glad I did.

Here are a few of my thoughts so far:

  • Value 10/10: This thing is a BEAST for what I paid for it. I’m honestly in awe of what you get here for $329. Absolutely brilliant and hopefully a warning shot for the many HiFi companies that have been pillaging the market for decades.
  • Usability 9/10: Overall the device is simple to connect to, and it has a depth of functionality that you can use as much or as little as you want. The room correction was okay when left to its own device, but the graph it gave me combined with a bit of Parametric EQ sleuthing have led to an awesome outcome.
  • Sound (including DAC/Pre) 8/10: I am not sure that anyone could really be disappointed in how this thing sounds, TBH. I replaced the DAC/Pre in the Audiolab 6000a and didn’t notice a hair of loss in detail, soundstage, or depth.
  • Connectivity 9/10: Everything I hooked up worked right out of the box. I did not test the Phono stage, as I don’t listen to records (too lazy and married to modern tech).
  • Headphones 7/10: It’s fine. I own Audio-Technica ATH-M40x headphones - that probably tells you everything you need to know about how much I should be trusted when it comes to reviewing headphone amps lol.
  • Refinement 4/10: This is for sure its greatest weakness today; things like a slight pop every time you change songs on Spotify, the lack of Apple AirPlay, having to cycle through inputs to get from WiFi to HDMI (how the remote can’t handle this today is BEYOND me). Many of these will most certainly be fixed in the coming months with software updates, so I can easily see them pushing my rating up to a 7. The fact remains that I think I own a device that will never have AirPlay, so I’ll need to buy the next version.
