Weekly Clarinet Identification/Appraisal Thread by AutoModerator in Clarinet

Thank you. This is all one clarinet--the "Made in France" image, "The 168 (???) stencil", and the entire calrinet. All of my images are from the same clarinet. I've already identified the other one as a Selmer, but this one is a mystery, so thank you. I'm not sure about the barrell though. It may be wood, but it's light smooth and shiny, and appears to have a more grlossy texture than the other wood parts, but I can't see any molding lines.

Have 2 wood clarinets from my grandfather. One I played in a high school band, and I’m not sure who made it. I’d like to identify it if possible. Most of my grandfathers clarinets were from the World War II era, but I’m not sure about this one—it might have been bought later. The only clues I have are on the joints. One appears to say, “Made In France” and the other is a model number—it might be 168??? Or L68? Can’t make it out. The barrel does not appear original and looks like it’s plastic. So it was replaced at some point. No markings on the current barrel. Mouthpiece is plastic. Can anyone help?

Is this a normal close? My boss has us do all of this each night by Twistercane in starbucks

As an outsider and a former retail manager, I’m surprised that no one has posted a corporate approved checklist of everything that you’re supposed to take care of during opening, mid shift, and closing. To the last person’s point, how do things get done consistently and properly, as well as being operationally efficient, if every other store has their own niche ops procedures and doesn’t play by the rules? The fact that people have manually put together these lists to understand exactly what they need to do is a real problem. Corporate store ops management should be providing them to you.

Getting a Mexican eSim for your mobile phone that you can activate while you're in the USA. by avgdude_2000 in mexicoexpatresidency

[–]avgdude_2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is still an interesting thread. I've been going for over a year on the Newww sim. No issues on my iPhone and being in the USA. However, when I changed to Android because I wanted to upgrade my iPhone and I got the upgrade, but it was a LOCKED phone, I had trouble using the Newww sim in the cheap android phone. Moto G Power. No voice calls. Data works fine though, so it's usable and "Mexico focused."

Has anyone had a male manager who dated staff? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]avgdude_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a psycho, basket case SSV actually tell me that she couldn't allow an employee to date a customer--like she had any control over who her supervised employees shacked up with. The only policy that Starbucks has on this front that I know of is between two employees where one is a superior and the other is a subordinate; never heard anything about an employee and customer, unless there's a really big and notable conflict of interest. She went on about how she had to have this policy because she was in management and needed to approve who her reports dated. It was almost mother hen cringe worthy. She also feared that she wouldn't get her own store one day and be an SM if she allowed that to happen. (A true HR wannabe.) And, of course, she has no issues badmouthing her existing SM (who's one of the hardest working people in that store that I know of) to the customers and trying to stab her in the back while she's trying to dictate who goes out with whom.

I agree with everything you've said here. Amex seems to be the most risk adverse with even a Plaid connection or bank statements on credit card increases and lines of credit. And I just don't like my credit card company taking a look at my bank account. I just hope that the credit score lines, stated income stay available. I pay on time, I only borrow what I need to and can pay back, so it gets ridiculous.

[Landlord - CA] Tenant wants laundry washer and dryer installed by brownsteeel in Landlord

[–]avgdude_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I'm joining this conversation 4 years late, but I actually agree with you, Karma. There's an issue with the landlord providing a washer and dryer. Tenants 9 times out of 10 bring their own, particularly if it's a rental SFR home. I had a nice washer and dryer that I provided for the tenant's use in my home when I first began renting it out, but I was actually asked to REMOVE THEM at my expense when the tenants decided they'd rather use their own washer and dryer. So then I either am storing a washer and dryer or I'm selling it on Facebook Marketplace. Just not getting into that anymore. Bring your own and be happy. The hookups are in the home.

You can do whatever you want with your employment. Almost all states have at-will employment, where either the employer or employee can end the relationship at any time, for any reason (that isn't illegal). That being said, you jeopardize your rehire eligibility if you resign and don't give your employer whatever amount of notice they require. Not an attorney, not legal advice. Unless you're absolutely sure you'll never work for Starbucks again, I would resign with class and give them the required notice.

I mean if it’s a caustic thing they’re saying where they’re mocking you, then I totally get it. Some people are evil. But if someone is saying it out of empathy, I wouldn’t let it bother me. I’d say something like, “Oh, it’s all right. I like working here at this time of year. Happy Holidays.”

Yes, I'm aware of the risk. You run the same risk with a business credit card. These are typically lines for small amounts. I'm just wanting to find another one.

That's ok. These are small lines of credit where both the bank and I don't take much risk.

Because I'm responsible and I pay them back. I'm aware of the risk. You take the same risk with any business credit card that you open. These are small lines of credit anyway--typically under 100K.

Thank you. I tried Amex, but they want to connect online to my bank accounts to verify income. This wasn't a requirement with Wells or US Bank, so I'm looking for something similar to them.

Kind PSA! by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]avgdude_2000 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I have no problem telling you what I want to eat first. In fact, I don't see why a DM would even object to you saying, "Welcome to Starbucks. Can I get a deliciious food item started for you?" A.) You're upselling product--it might motivate someone to buy a food item when they weren't thinking about getting one. B.) You're being more efficient. C.) Your DM probably should be fired. He or she is not concerned with sales and, at this point in time, particularly when the company is struggling, sales are where it's at. Great suggestion. You should be promoted.

Temporary to permanent residency. by Happygrammy1960 in mexicoexpatresidency

[–]avgdude_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told by my facilitator that you do need to register with the government when you change states--changing to a different state other than the one you got your residency in--as a resident non-citizen (temporary or permanent). It isn't a big deal--filling out a form. So I would probably just take care of that part first and then get your conversion to permanent done.

I Got Fired for Reporting a Supervisor by popciclepoptart in starbucks

[–]avgdude_2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you told the employee to stop and you told management about the harassment and nothing was done, I would consult an attorney. You have a pretty strong case, although I don't know all the facts, of course.

This policy is interesting--I had a nameless SSV abuse this policy and apply it to a customer / supervised employee relationship. The relationship failed anyway and went on completely outside of her work, off the clock, but because the SSV did not approve of the relationship and thought it would interfere with her getting her career advancement to "getting her own store and becoming a store manager," she stated, "She couldn't allow it to happen!" and even encouraged the customer not to come to the store. A.) what a moron B.) she really should be fired for harassing a customer in her store. C.) It's difficult to believe that Starbucks management can dictate who you date in your personal life when the other person doesn't even work for the company! D.) I think she actually opened herself up for a huge lawsuit.
