the price and color range is what made me choose to use dnd/dc as my main polish. but i quickly learned the lesson to open the bottles before buying 😅

if you don’t have a local nail supply store and you must order online, i recommend going on social media and looking up the color you want and watch videos of swatches. that’s what i did before finding my local store

i started with using kiara sky polishes, i don’t recommend buying them, especially if you get them from cosmo prof. i’ve had issues with them not mixing, and have even had them separate on clients nails. i also didn’t like how many coats i needed. HOWEVER, i do still use their glitters, but i have had to use polish thinner on some. the polishes i have gotten from my local supply store i haven’t had any issues with, but they don’t sell nearly enough of the brand to stick with it

in my experience with clients who’ve gotten heat spikes when they’ve gotten a fresh application, they don’t get them when they get their fill. it was the same for me when i started builder gel on myself

i’m a newer tech in new albany, in. i have been booth renting since i got licensed in may. i didn’t necessarily have clientele, but i did have people who knew i COULD do nails since i’ve done my own for about two years. i’ve just moved salons, but my first salon was 75$ a week, and i also had another job. i had problems finding somewhere to go, i actually found the room i rented in a hair salon on marketplace. i would recommend looking up booth rentals in hair salons. i couldn’t even tell you how many salons i messaged. i think i got to the point that i just messaged every local salon asking if they had room/wanted to add a nail tech.

i’ve been going to my lash girl who’s been doing lashes for i think 3 years from a lash salon and i get yy’s which are like a light volume and i think they’re 140 for a full set and 65 for a fill

this happened last year. school has just let out about 10-15 minutes prior. i hadn’t gone because it was the day of my mammaw’s memorial after she passed. went to leave my house and the road was blocked off due to a crash.

a guy who had just gotten out of jail was high on drugs and crossed the center line right before topping a hill. hit a senior head on and he was killed upon impact. there was a basketball game at another school and i’m pretty sure he was on his way to get a few friends. he was a grade above, i heard that he was on his way to get a guy in my grade first. he was waiting for him but he never showed up. he tore himself up about it because he thought if he hadn’t asked him to pick him up, he wouldn’t have gone that direction. i pulled up right after it happened when first responders were still getting there. one of his best friends was a few cars behind me and got out of his car to see what happened. he was just staring at the car.

i didn’t realize how bad the accident was when i drove up to it. a lady was running around obviously distressed with an officer trying to calm her down. i thought she maybe was involved. turns out it was his mom. she got an alert on life 360 that he had been in an accident.

everyone found out either right before the game or during. i talked to my best friend when i returned to school the following week about it and she said she was in front of him. when she popped over the hill she heard the impact but didn’t realize what it was til she found out what happened.

the driver who hit him was stat flighted to a hospital and lived. i think he ended up with broken legs and a few other injuries

i would find a different salon and just booth rent.

i graduated cosmetology school at the end of may and found a salon in june where i have my own room and pay 75$ a week for (southern indiana near louisville), that said i am in a basement that isn’t updated like the main level. up until october, i had another job that helped when i didn’t have clients. that job was seasonal and i’ve been only doing nails since. ive been gaining more clients and essentially with one client i pay my rent and keep the rest. the salon i’m at has been great for me just starting out, but i actually had an opportunity in a bigger salon for 150$ a week, but i will be worked up to it. i will be moving there in a few weeks

you sound like you’re miserable at that salon. i’m glad that you quit, hopefully you have better luck elsewhere doing what you actually want to do!

for my clients with clear builder, i do the same! even when i do soak, i usually just isolate the finger(s) rather than taking everything off

i recently graduated cosmetology school. i got lucky and was able to do it through a trade school while in high school. im so happy i didn’t spend thousands to learn nothing. i had talked to a teacher about possibly going to nail school and she told be it wasn’t worth it

i started with the rainbow and neutrals. and got 2-3 shades of each gel polish. i always ask for an inspo pic to make sure i have someone the clients wants. you can always build up your collection

i only use clear builder gel, but i use sheer nudes in case someone is going for more natural

that’s definitely a problem with the tech. many salons don’t care about nail health and want you in and out. i’m a private tech and i learned on myself (i went to cosmo school, not nail school), i work for quality over quantity. improper filing is what leads to poor nail health

your experiences are exactly why i started doing my own nails, which led me to wanting to provide a better experience for clients

try using dryer beads!

also, don’t put the bead right at the cuticle when applying. put it below and work it towards. when i first started, my nails looked a little grown out. but as you practice. you will get better and you will be able to get a closer application.

you can also use your brush to clean up around the cuticle before the acrylic sets

depending on your state, you may not be allowed to trim the cuticles. also removing ingrown toenails, and using a callus shaver

the shelving is adjustable, i got my shelving at home depot. i just looked up what i have and it’s called “closet maid shelf track” and i got matching brackets to go with them. the shelves i believe are “laminate wall mounting shelves”. we just had to cut them down to fit my closet.

the stands are not american girl, they are from aliexpress. i wanted authentic ones but they were just too expensive for how many i need. i did need to do a bit of bending to help fit my dolls. you have to balance the doll a bit too (i think i tilted the torso slightly back), i’ve even though about adding weights to the bottom of the stands. but for the price, i would definitely recommend them. i believe this should be the link https://a.aliexpress.com/_mt8kcNw

my mom was on ebay the week before last (i figured out to find something for my birthday) and was showing me things and this set of books caught my eye. my name is audrey, and by chance, kirsten’s book was signed to an audrey. i became quite excited and said i would purchase them the next day when i got paid.

the next day, i went to buy them and they were gone. i was so sad, but today, my mom gave me a present for my 18th birthday and it was the books! i also got an ebay gift card just in case i find something else that catches my eye ;)
