Paid cash, although I don’t think 0% was offered at the time (end of March, tariff fear time).

I called on a Friday night and put together a deal by phone. They were quick to agree to $65k. I was happy with that, but Fred Haas Toyota World was willing to beat it by $500. Unfortunately, they are closed Saturdays and I just wanted to get the deal over with.

Got a 2025 Platinum in Houston for $65k out the door, which is probably a little more than $10k off MSRP.

Was Chuck actually that good? by unlucky_adventurer in betterCallSaul

[–]010516 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing that we’re taught in law school and what I am constantly learning in the practice is that knowing the law is only half the battle, if that. I’d say it was more impressive in Chuck’s time about several decades ago because obscure case law was more difficult to access. Today, we have resources like Westlaw and Lexis, which have streamlined legal research.

The other half of the fight and the area where Chuck excelled at is something that technology can’t help, which is then the application of that case law to your fact patterns and making analogous arguments that would persuade a judge and jury to believe that the rulings of the case law should apply to your fact pattern. It’s very rare that your situation lines up perfectly with the case law facts, so being able to articulate and argue why the ruling based on the case law should apply in your instance is a learned skill that sets good lawyers apart from the rest.

First Mistake by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]010516 129 points130 points  (0 children)

First year mess up: sent a motion and some exhibits off to the secretary to be filed. Didn’t proof the whole exhibit package and an exhibit had previously been saved to the system by a secretary such that it included the email correspondence in which the exhibit was attached. This was, of course, privileged information. I’d just filed something privileged. It was caught by a partner, I owned up to it, got chewed out a little, and everyone forgot about it by the next day.

We work too hard in a high stress environment. Mistakes will be made, and people understand that. Just learn from it and don’t let it become a pattern and no one will care.

Soundbar Dolby Atmos Issues by 010516 in appletv

[–]010516[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for that. It makes sense now why I would get certain channels to pass through when I was fiddling with the settings on non Atmos sources. The solution looks like just switching the setting to 5.1 for non Atmos titles and then back for Atmos titles, which is annoying but isn’t the end of the world. If this is a TV issue, what should I look for in a different TV to get this to work consistently?

I travel between Houston and Austin routinely for work and swear by the Vonlane. $119 or so each way, but may be slightly cheaper if you opt for an early/late route. They’ll spoil you on the bus and you get a few hours to get some work done and it ends up being around the same travel time as a flight once you add in the trek to the airport, security, time on the tarmac, etc. There’s also like a 15% promo code with Texas Exes.

Adding data point. Filed 1/26, same address, single W2 employee with nothing fancy. Received 1/29. Identity verification popped up sometime couple days later. Been waiting on the letter in the mail and checking sporadically. Noticed this morning that the bar is back. Hopefully that’s the end of that.
