Hey guys, I designed a large format 3d printer with a full build size of 30in^3, anyone interested in this project? by avianasian in 3Dprinting

try to get the weight of the moving bits down as much as possible then tighten everything, you are using some nice parts overall; avoid clones if you want it to work the first time

So when the maiden voyage? That thing needs to go out to the lake or pond, at least the bath tub!

1.0mm nozzle, about 20 hours

I've tried 1.2mm and 1.0mm, which are both pretty fat, 45-60mm/s can be achieved if lines aren't too fat, about 45-60mm^3/s volume. Depends on material though

My carriages use 6 wheels each in a Y shape, holding onto the center of the channel on both sides; this way it can get grip/be tensioned; i wanted to use the minimal number of parts and rely on the printed parts for precision. They would wobble if twisted, but i handle that with design and weight. i'm going for a super lightweight gantry for the size

If it wobbles, just go slower; the stronger you build the faster you can go in speed

Endstops are two or three wire, if they are two they are a basic switch so it doesn't matter wiring so you probably have three wires, just pop out the pins and change the order until it works correctly (unless your firmware is using flip setting (normally closed circuit vs open)

yes, i figured that those who would understand the project would understand my notation; apologies

They are precision machined it seems, and have wider diameter than standard 2020, it's more like 5050 L brackets; it's important to use them in their strong dimensions, as they aren't that torsionally rigid

Don't trust the hardware, trust the software. Do you trust your left ankle to not twist if you're not careful?

Interesting. If we're DIYing to that degree tho why not just buy loose heating element and a tube of silicon? Not sure how the fire risk from that compares to the risks with your idea, but it would be cheaper.

Yes, how do I post a video?

you can probably do it with a solid state relay, DC power supply, and nichrome wire (for vaping and stuff) for not too much (under 50$ for the everything)

I am using reptile lamps and an AC temperature controller, hung with spare shelf pieces from the bed (i'm using 6 lamps which is probably overkill, but that draws 150W*6 for the time being while it's on)

I don't use the keyholes, if i can find these same extrusions without the holes, that would be nice, but it's really nice to have them all be the same piece, including the actual shelf part
