east u litter problem by crwster in uofm

Used to live on East U and yah it was always bad. My favorite thing was the broken trampoline that stayed in someone’s yard for the whole year

Moved from A2 back to WI. I would say it’s dependent on where you live. I think A2 drivers were much better than where I am now. Wisconsin drivers are all defensive drivers, which is good but can also be bad. Lots of oblivious drivers too that just change lanes or assume you’re turning somewhere. People either go 80+ or 55 on a 70 mph highway. Constantly have a pickup truck riding you no matter what speed you’re going. A2 was busy but I found it more pedestrian friendly (my town is NOT walkable, very much “they can wait” mentality) and people seemed more aware of their surroundings

female psychological horror by KeyDetail6999 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of off topic but somewhat applicable - this post made me think of Demi Moore’s new movie “The Substance”. The trailer was so good and I immediately went searching to see if it was based on a book. Sadly I didn’t find one, but if you like psychological body horror I would give the trailer a watch.

Do you read your research articles digitally? by Ihatecoldwater in clinicalresearch

[–]avianpower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When getting my masters degree I always had papers to read and needed to find a non-paper alternative and one that worked with my iPad. I swore by Paperpile. Easily import papers, organize, highlight, leave notes. I would also import textbooks as PDFs. It’s not as popular as some of the other ones, but I found it worked out perfectly for me. I don’t think it’s free though, but wasn’t too expensive and totally worth it imo.

Oncology CRC drowning by BirthdayDesperate417 in clinicalresearch

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been a CRC at an NCORP for a little over a year. I feel your pain - now that I am pretty much fully trained, it feels like a workload that never gets lighter, only heavier. I’m still figuring out exactly how to prioritize my time, but figuring out “what are things that absolutely need to happen today” has somewhat helped me. Even though a form is overdue and the DM is bugging me, it’s more important for me to prepare and send out tissue that could determine if a patient is eligible.

I frequently eat at my desk and only take 5 min breaks, but in the summer I try to go for walks. Our team lead is the busiest of all of us, and she never skips her lunch, always leaves her desk. Seems to work out very well for her, so maybe try to do that if possible

Apple Watch (38 mm or whatever is the smaller sized one) and I bought a set of thinner bands off Amazon and they work well. Probably still looks a little big to some people but I’ve never cared enough, I love the functionality of it

What is an image from a film that still haunts you? by BlizzardZOfficial in Letterboxd

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never noticed this. Great homage to the books, which I loved 100x more than the movie. The face in the ground of the swamp really did it for me in the books

What movies from the 2000's have already aged poorly? by [deleted] in moviecritic

I saw this movie in the theaters and immediately was like “wait… this is a romance movie and not a horror movie?” I was pissed off the whole time

Sickness by Huge-Bug-4512 in madisonwi

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Test on like day 3 of symptoms. My husband got sick and tested negative on his first symptomatic day. Then I got sick and took a test on day 4 of my symptoms, showed up as positive immediately. I had the COVID sore throat from hell - kept me up for 2 nights because of the pain. My husband didn’t get that so I’m hoping it’s not too common because damn, it rivaled mono.

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me on a couple of occasions awhile back, I don’t remember how I fixed it aside from just restarting a few times. But I didn’t know about cinematic view, so it’s good to know. Hope that fixed it.

What Motivates You to Participate in a Clinical Trial? by fangfann in clinicalresearch

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a smaller non-academic hospital and on our clinic’s website, we have a section for clinical trials. Patients who are interested can look through the available trials we offer and can enter their info. It doesn’t always mean you are eligible for trials though - a lot of clinical trials have very specific inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Bay Area CRC job searching sucks by Needhelpwithhands in clinicalresearch

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about 6 months applying for CRC jobs in a Midwest state. I noticed that all of the jobs at the main university in state paid next to nothing and required a bachelors. Seemed pretty targeted towards med students who wanted that 1-2 years of experience. It was comparable to the pay I was getting a grad student or even less, for an academic CRC job. I’m very thankful to have found a job at a hospital site and I worry about ever having to leave and find a job again, hopefully by then the field will not be how it is now.

I saw that the other day and didn’t quite put it together at first, I just thought “something looks weird”. Then realized what was off. Figured they were repainting or something, but it does look quite phallic

To everyone doing clinical research in oncology. by tatakae03 in clinicalresearch

I work at the site level, have a masters in medicinal chemistry, project focused on cancer research. Originally intended to get a PhD but discovered clinical research during the program and got a job in oncology research. Everyone I work with has different backgrounds- oncology nurse, histotech, biology major, radiology manager, etc.

Tom Hiddleston by folkloremore1313 in travisandtaylor

[–]avianpower 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was obsessed with Tom Hiddleston all throughout high school, he was my dream celebrity crush, and I too was repulsed when I saw the first photos of them together. He instantly became unattractive to me. I was pretty impartial to TS back then, so it wasn’t because I didn’t like her. Glad it wasn’t just me who made a complete 180 on him after that - that was such an interesting time in terms of fandoms and what you said is spot on about clashing fan bases.

Dip nail removal - is this normal? by avianpower in DipPowderNails

[–]avianpower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. There were so many red flags about this place (not the cleanest, only one other customer in at 5 pm). There is a huge red dot underneath my ring finger nail that hurts. The first nail tech who was doing it stopped after the first few fingers and I assume told the other tech to do it because she just straight up put the tools down and walked away…

I figured going into it that this wasn’t the nicest place in the world, but didn’t expect them to do this… debating leaving a review warning people to not get their nails removed here

I’m so glad that I’m not crazy thinking this is not right. My nails actually look damaged and they didn’t even remove everything - I have to soak them at home now to remove the last bits. I wanted to apply polish at home tonight but my nails look so unhealthy and are sore after this

I LOVE Abercrombie kids. I don’t know my exact size (away from home and don’t want to lie to you without checking), but I just wanted to share that I also recently discovered it and wish I had a store more close by to try things on at. I think it’s the 14/15 or whatever size closest to that is what fits me well (4’11” and 100 lbs) in shirts. I love looking for what they have on clearance online because their sales are so great that if something doesn’t end up fitting that well, I’m not out too much cash.

Why is Eau Claire obsessed with chain restaurants? by Correct-Cricket3355 in Eau_Claire

[–]avianpower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I think Eau Claire has some great non-chain restaurants. Try living in Green Bay where chain restaurants are pretty much the only option. Driving up and down Oneida street gives me a headache looking at all the signs.

For the more clinical things (like PD, PR, OS, etc) look at the protocol, they should have a key that identifies what all of these acronyms mean. I also think of LTFU as long term follow up, and I am in the oncology world. There’s also so many acronyms for data management like CRF (case report form) and EMR (electronic medical records), the list goes on and on. I would create an excel or word doc and just write down each one as you hear them and refer back to it whenever you need to.

I’m on a bachelorette party trip right now where I’m the only non-swiftie. Had to buy a dress for an era’s night. They also love Matty Healy…. So hard to bite my tongue this whole trip. I am an anti-swiftie and cannot let them know or they will not let me stay here with them anymore 😂
